Hi, the first day I arrived Leo and Dona were already waiting for me. So the check-in was without any trouble. I was welcomed very warmly. After they showed me my room I was very happy because it was totally clean – so I could just be relaxed after my long flight. The bathroom was working perfectly – I had hot water for taking a shower. The air conditioner was working perfectly so I could sleep tight. My hosts were really supporting me a lot. For example bringing me to the supermarket with his car, so i could buy all the things I needed. They also supported me when I needed a transportation to Santa Clara. They told me about a very cheap and good bus company what I can use. And they helped me much more – without them I wouldn’t have such a easy and nice stay. Thanks to them I could enjoy my trip without any worries. Maybe I forgot to mention some points because there so many good things I can tell about. Once again – Thanks to Leo, Dona and Maria.

***Comentario en español más abajo*** Doña Emy's place is just as you see it in the photos, and even cleaner in person than it looks. The bedroom is large and very comfortable, with AC and a full bathroom inside. The shower's water pressure is a bit low, but that's about it. There is a back patio where you can rest or hang out and read a book, or even have people over. They also have a large kitchen and living room, and both Doña Emy and her son Leo are available 24/7 for whatever guests need. They are extremely welcoming, kind, and amiable. It was a pleasure to stay with them, and it is in a great location too: 3 blocks from El Malecón and about 25-30min walking distance from Old Havana (Habana Vieja), which is a 10min taxi ride. Would definitely recommend this place!

My boyfriend and I visited Cuba for the first time on this trip, we´ve never stayed in someone else´s home and had no idea what to expect. But we´ve heard from friends that had visited the Island that it was one of the best cultural experiences. We arrived at the airport and shared a taxi ride with another couple we met in the airport, the ride was about 20-25 mnts. When we reached Emy´s home she was standing waiting for us at the door with a warm smile. I´d written to them the night before the time we arrived at the airport so they knew more or less when we´d arrive. We entered the house and it was beautiful, very simple and clean. Leo (Emy´s son) was super friendly and showed us to our room (gave us manyy tips on how to be in Cuba). We stayed in the room with the Marylin Monroe frame, it was exactly as seen in the pictures, very clean, with our own set of keys, bathroom, clean towels and bed sheets. We cannot tell you how awesome the location of this house is...we were in Cuba 9 days (we stayed in Emy´s the whole time). It is a block away from the Malecon, 5 mnts away (in car-taxi) from Old Havana, 8 mnts away (car) from Vedado. We walked most of the time to enjoy the breeze and the streets, to Old HAvana is was probably a 30 mnt. Walk...and believe me you will not feel it´s much. We loved arriving at the house (whatever the time, Emy was always waiting for us with a smile) we would talk hours with them (in Spanish) on their life, culture...everything. Leo´s wife and beautiful baby were also the best part, we really felt at home with them in a place that was completly new and strange to us. Leo knows a lot about Cuba and is very helpful on knowing the proper taxi rates, prices to places, transportation ideas, places to eat...and pretty much everything! Cuba is extremely safe you can walk anywhere. It is definitely an experience we will never forget and like jumping on a time machine to the ´50s. We really enjoyed our trip and are 100% sure staying in this beautiful families home was one of the best parts. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

If this is your first visit to Habana you might feel a bit apprehensive when you turn onto its street but that feeling will disappear when you settle in and realize how safe and welcoming the neighborhood is. The location can not be beat. Of all the casas I've stayed at in Cuba this was by far the quietest (that's really saying something as those beautiful old coches are LOUD). The quiet is due to the rooms' location in the back opening onto the courtyard rather than the street. Only the shared living room/kitchen faces the street which itself is unusually quiet for Havana and Vedado because it is not a through street, it only exists for a block and a half. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) doesn't know where it is when you type in the address (as is true with many things in Cuba) but you'll have no trouble finding it using Habana's signature address format which lists not just the house number and street name but also the cross streets it sits between. Being one block off of the Malecon and three or so from the Hotel National you can get anywhere in Vedado, Central Havana, and Habana Vieja by foot. Taxis are everywhere and the host; Leo, set me up with a car to take me to the airport at 5am.
