About this listing

Our home is in a quiet neighborhood in the U-Med district, close to public transport, bike trails and parks. It's a large place where you'll stay in company with fellow travelers and local residents. You’ll love having access to the whole house (except private rooms) including the spacious kitchen, sunny decks, and multi-functional yard. Ours is a comfortable, safe and healthy environment where interaction and entertainment is as much a part of the stay as a good night’s rest.

Description

The space

Ours is a family home, not a hotel. As such we're more comfortable than conventional, and more prone to conversations than to parties. We maintain a garden, hot tub and trampoline during the summer months, and a fire pit year-round.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire house except where private rooms are occupied by others. This includes the kitchen/dining area, great room, media room, decks and yard. We also maintain a few bicycles for enjoying the local trails.

Interaction with guests

Interaction with fellow guests is both welcome and encouraged. Travel is generally a cultural experience, and you’ll often meet people from many corners of the world around our table.

The neighbourhood

We're located in a quiet cul-de-sac in the U-Med district of East Anchorage. UAA, APU, Providence hospital, ANMC and the university lakes are within walking distance. Bus stops to downtown are a block away, access to bike trails just a touch further.

Getting around

We’re about 10 miles from both the main airport and downtown Anchorage. Buses 13 and 75 run from our neighborhood directly to downtown. Buses from downtown connect to the airport and various nearby towns. We don't have UBER in Anchorage, but the taxis are generally reliable and prompt. We also maintain a few bicycles for more energetic guests to get around on.

Other things to note

My two daughters (9, 16) and the occasional roommate live here. I brew beer on a regular basis that responsible guests are welcome to enjoy. We also actively host travelers from around the world as part of the CouchSurfing community.

As others have mentioned, this space felt more like a hostel than a private home. Wil was very kind and accommodating and generously lets guests access his open and fully stocked kitchen. This was a good location for me because I was attending a training at the University, which was in walking distance.

This place is in a great location, and very easy to get around from. If you are used to dorm living, or having roommates, this place is for you. If you are a neat freak, and need lots of quiet, this place may not be for you. There is as much, or as little interaction as you want with all of the residents.

We had a awesome stay! So generous and such a nice home, lovely people and wil makes his own really good beer. Our dog was welcome and we had some laundry to do... That was no problem... Super nice, hopefully we can go back one day! Lots of love from Fien and Nick

I'm a single father of 5, an active CouchSurfing host, a long-time software engineer, a shorter time brewer of beer. I live a good life in a house by the side of the road and work to find ways to share that.

My house is an open one, generally full of a collection of kids, roommates, CouchSurfers from around the world, and now AirBnb travellers. In the end, we are comfortable, and we have fun.
