This is a hidden gem of a place made even more special by the friendliness of the staff and first class hospitality by your host, Pihi (?) We were lucky enough to be staying when a few of the guests had caught crayfish and king fish , diving just off the shore at the accomodation, cooked beautifully by the host and shared amongst all the guests round the outdoor fire. A truly Kiwi experience. Cheers...will definitely return !

This is a backpacker style place in a stunning location so well worth a visit. We went for a swim in the bay before we left. Great to meet up and chat with other guests in the communal kitchen. It's well signposted on the main road and so easy to find. Its clean but basic. The driveway in and out is steep.

Beautiful location and setting with it's own private beach. Rooms are rather small, but have a nice view. Note that this is a budget backpacker accommodation with very basic amenities, not a proper BnB or hotel. Make sure to bring your own towels and shower soap, as these are not provided, contrary to what the listing says. Also bring some trash bags, as you are expected to take out all plastic, glass, cans and other recycling out with you again. Owner was friendly, but did not really show us around when we arrived. He also didn't want to help us take the kayaks down despite asking (as I'm a small person, carrying the kayak over the rocks was quite heavy for me). Unlike other backpackers we've stayed at, everything here comes at an extra cost: internet, kayak hire, spa pool, staying past checkout time, etc. When we were 5 minutes late with the kayaks the owner wanted to charge us for half an hour extra, which we found rather harsh. We'd rather pay more for the accommodation and not have to worry about spending a few minutes "too much" on the water, as you come to a place like this to relax and not to constantly watch the clock. All in all we enjoyed our stay, but it's important to come here with the right expectations.

Gorgeous location. Very secluded and quiet. Rustic, "backpacker-friendly", good budget option. Well designed and built. Could use a little maintenance and updating, especially bathrooms/showers and kitchen.

Had a wonderful overnight stay. Enjoyed my best nights sleep in months, the sound of the water lapping the shore was music to my ears. My host Pihi was extremely gracious, staying up for my arrival at 11pm due to a very delayed flight ensuring that I found my room and was aware of the location of all amenities prior to lights out. Sitting on the verandah drinking coffee and eating fresh home made scones the next morning with Pihi looking out over this beautiful bay chewing the cud with him was icing on the cake. Rustic yes, magical yes, so glad I made the effort! Thanks heaps mate :-)
