Self-contained, open-plan studio beneath my house, with quality fittings & furnishings. Own entrance and private deck. Superb views. Set on a private acre in North Maleny, only a few minutes from the centre of town. Ideal for those wanting a relaxing retreat. The only noise is bird song.

The space

The name:
"Awarua" was the name of the flying boat my father delivered from England to Australia via war-torn Europe in April 1940. Its arrival marked the beginning of Tasman Empire Airways, the forerunner of Air New Zealand.

The studio is in a beautiful spot in north Maleny and only a few minutes drive from town. There is no traffic noise but plenty of bird song. Baroon Pocket Dam is also a short drive down the hill.

Small dogs are welcome, but an extra $25 cleaning fee applies.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the studio only, which has its own private deck and balcony. Please feel free to roam around the property.

Interaction with guests

I work from home (I am a writer, journalist and also help run the family business - we are wholesalers of bicycle components). As I keep odd hours, I prefer to be contacted by text message or email, preferably before 6pm. If important ring the bell at the bottom of stairs on LHS.
After guests are welcomed they will be left to themselves to settle in and will not be disturbed. However, I am an avid cyclist and always keen to go for a ride with any guest who may share this strange addiction!

Other things to note

Check-in (2pm or later) and check-out (10am or earlier), unless by prior arrangement. If new guests are coming, I need time to do the changeover! But pretty flexible.

Absolutely amazing stay!! The place was beautiful and the views were very tranquil. Mary was an amazing host and a great person to have a chat with. This place is now going to be a regular whenever we make our way up to Maleny. It was so lovely to have an array of snacks and various drinks as well as an abundance of utilities for cooking. Thank you Mary!

Mary was prompt to respond and was a friendly and unobtrusive host. The accommodation was very comfortable and thoughtfully appointed. The situation was quiet and peaceful yet a very short drive to Maleny. There was a good selection of DVD's and books to read but our favourite spot was the back verandah listening to birdsong and enjoying the views. There was a good selection of yummy treats. Overall a great escape from the city. We would love to visit again.

Top notch Air BnB. Mary, the owner is very lovely and full of local information, and ideas of where to go, including recommendations on dining venues and coffees. Mary is very respectful of your privacy Mary rents a self contained studio apartment under house, very spacious, with everything you may need. It is located a short drive from Melaney (2.8k). Beautifully decorated, in stylish decor, a lovely kitchen with appliances. The bed is very comfortable, and looks over the bushland, it is lovely to wake up to the birds and look over the bushland without even getting out of bed. Also provided is a lovely fresh selection of local fruit, fresh Melaney milk, yoghurt and more, and even ground coffee for the coffee plungers. Mary provides a generous selection of muesli options, as well as other cereals, and also fresh croissants. The bathroom is stocked with beautiful bathroom soaps and lotions. The apartment has wall to wall glass bi-fold doors that look out over the bushland over to the Melaney township on the next hill, you have a choice of 2 private balconies overlooking the bush. If you are lucky like us, you might have a friendly Kangaroo with Joey in pouch visit in the back yard. So much nicer than I imagined from the photos, and reading about it. It's a comfortable scenic walk to town, up and down county hills with plenty of views to look at on the way. If you are looking for privacy, at a quiet and peaceful location, this is your place.
