My place is close to great views, 30 minutes from the beach, family-friendly activities, restaurants and dining.. You’ll love my place because of its location in a tropical flower plantation in the mountains, clean stream with fishing and swimming holes, bird watching, hiking, peaceful and private location.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).

The space

This is a charming wooden house in a 5 acre tropical flower farm in the mountains of Puerto Rico. This private farm is located in a lush river valley surrounded by mountains and brimming with natural life. The Casey river is a short walk away and it is ideal for a refreshing dip in its swimming holes, fishing for dajao, and shrimping at night.

This is an area full of life: lizards, insects, coquís, crickets, birds, and other local fauna. The house and its surroundings are kept free of pests, though the occasional gecko (harmless) might find its way inside. The house is fully screened and can be left open to enjoy the night sounds or closed and air conditioned.

Guest access

Guests can explore the farm, hike the access road behind the farm for exercise, bird watching, and/or to reach different parts of the river. You will have access to the swimming pool, which is next to my house. There's a trail that leads to other vacation farms and provides access to other parts of the river, including a waterfall and a large swimming hole.

Interaction with guests

I am retired, live in another house in the same farm, and am usually around and available to personally greet our guests and help them settle in.

Other things to note

This is a quiet neighborhood, interrupted by occasional music from a nearby church or bar. Church services are on Thursday and Sunday afternoons for about 2 hours. The bars are further away and their music is distant and faint in volume. You can easily tune these out by turning on the air conditioning.

Casa Abuelita was perfect! We (2 adults and 2 kids age 11 & 12) stayed for nearly a month and loved it. Very comfortable and the perfect setting for exploring the stunning coastline and beautiful interior. Nelsie is the most warm and generous host: she even taught us and fed us delicious Puerto Rican food. I just didn't ever want to leave this little slice of paradise!

This little secluded house is the perfect nature retreat. You can hear the river the whole time from the house and upstream are some unforgettable swimming spots. The mornings were cold with a light fog reminding you of its secluded location in the mountains. Great place, great time, highly recommended.

From the moment we got to Puerto Rico, Nelsie was just simply a pleasure! She assisted us from the beginning and helped us navigate our way to her house. She was so accommodating to our every need and was just the sweetest person. My family and I loved her and definitely felt welcome and as if she were a family member of ours. The house was just so cute, natural and comfortable and we loved staying there. All the nature surrounding the house was simply beautiful and magical. It was awesome to experience the forest come to life once the the sun set. Advice, make sure you arrive by daylight because at night it is extremely dark and super easy to get lost. Also pay attention to the Kilometer markers (14.4 is the entrance!!!!!) , as we did not, and we were completely lost in the beginning and found our selves deep in the mountains but Nelsie came to the rescue despite of the time it was. We are so grateful for the experience and for Nelsie taking us in to her home. We are especially grateful for all the conversations and the words of wisdom she shared with us!! We will be back for sure!

Casa abuelita it's really great. We wanted to scape for a weekend at the mountains and this place was amazing. The river it's right on the back of the house and you can feel the relaxing noise of the river water while having your morning coffee. The house has all the amenities you need and more. The living room has a nice smart tv and many movies to enjoy a quiet nite. The host was very attentive to all our needs. Will come back again, already missing the bird and coqui sounds.

Nelsie was more than an amazing host. She helped us figure out where to go, what to eat, what to do... everything! Her home cooked meal was the best we had on our stay in Puerto Rico. The house was clean, quiet, relaxing, and beautiful! It is a short drive to many beaches and towns, so you never feel like you are missing anything. We came to Puerto Rico on a whim and now we can't wait to come back. Not sure if we could say the same if it weren't for Nelsie and her amazing hospitality.
