- Ryan’s Rest is blessed with an abundance of wildlife including potentially Black Bears, Deer, Fox, Bob Cats, Snakes, and other creatures. To ensure the safety of your family and the animals please: 1)During seasons when fruit is abundant, black bears will enjoy these fruits. There is no need to panic. DO NOT CONFRONT THE BEARS. If you remain quiet they are a pleasure to watch from the safety of the deck, or if you wish for them to leave simply make some noise and they will scurry off. 2)FIRES ARE ONLY TO BE BURNED INSIDE THE METAL FIRE PIT. The screens must be used at all times. Please understand that Ryan’s Rest is a natural environment and the years of leaves and dead limb build up can lead to fire running up hill very quickly and this cannot be contained. 3)Grilling- IT IS IMPORTANT TO BURN OFF EXCESS FOOD AND CLEAN THE GRILL PROPERLY AFTER EACH USE. If the grill is not cleaned and covered after each use the black bears are very noisy when they knock it over in the middle of the night! The grill will also be unusable and require replacement. (Trust me here….) 4)Always keep refuse/trash/garbage in a tied trash bag inside the large trash container in the laundry room. DO NOT LEAVE GARBAGE IN A BAG OUTSIDE! If you are here for an extended amount of time and need to remove waste, the county dump open Mon. Wed. Fri. Sat. is located on 221 south toward Marion at 200 American Thread Road
