The location is great and the house spacious and comfortable with plenty of privacy. There was a problem with the grill but Carolyn was very responsive. Everyone had a wonderful time - highly recommend!

Yes.. I can't apologize enough I wish I had known sooner I would have gone for another grill . I do hope you enjoyed the extra free day I gave you .. I wish it were enough to compensate for my grill failure. Have a wonderful fall, Thank you for your stay.

The location of this house was amazing. We were right next to the Cadillac Mountain Park entrance and a short four minute drive into downtown Bar Harbor. The house was very spacious. Not only did it have six bedrooms, but a couple of the bedrooms had multiple beds - two twins, a full and twin - for different combinations of people. Also there was a nice porch off of the side, allowing people to separate from the group for brief periods of solitude if desired. There was a clothesline off the porch that was ideal for hanging damp clothing or towels to air dry. Carolyn was a very responsive and accommodating host.

Response from Carolyn:
The "bugs" Amanda saw.. or her mother saw.. no one was able to describe them to me .. the house is vacuumed twice a week and we do not have roaches in Maine. However because the sighting was in the basement I believe them to be what we in Maine call sow bug. The isopod crustacean which is very unhappy in the house.. like a bee is unhappy in a house .. This fascinating little wonder is so very important to our eco system because she eats dead leaves. She has a hard rigid segmented exoskeleton with fringes around the outside and after laying her eggs .. they rest in her marsupium on the under side of her belly.. every year she sheds her crustacean shell. While there are male and female sow bugs the females can reproduce asexually. They are a much valued and very necessary little creature to forested land and they are food for many forest creatures as such is the chain of life and part of God's creation they are to be admired for their complexity. We have by our basement door a small pile of leaves that has accumulated and one must of slipped under the door frame or been carried in by someones boot or shoe. My sincere apologies to your mother Amanda for her scary ordeal of seeing this in the house basement but our little unintended guest meant no harm and I will take immediate precautions to be sure other city dwelling guests aren't equally alarmed or better informed by posting this in several places in the basement. you may be interested in showing the children the write up and photo on wikipedia of little sow bug.. although there are 5,000 different varieties ours most looks like the one that has a fringe I have never seen one bigger than half the size of a dime. Growing up we also called them Grammie Grey which is the name they have from South Wales, they are called cheesy bobs in England and pill boys, cheese logs, and boat builders, carpenters.. many names .. same non assuming harmless little gem. Wikipedia has all of these names under the common name of wood louse. additionally the feed back about the railing is helpful as is the porch railing both were projects intended for this summer but the dishwasher interfered with that plan. I am hurt by the comment the house could be cleaner as this will result in reprecussion from the web site. As for value, we provide free parking, free internet, free laundry and dish soap, paper towels and bath tissue for 12 guests and don't charge a cleaning fee. Have a blessed rest of your year Sincerely Carolyn

Response from Carolyn:
So glad it met your needs during your stay here visiting Acadia National Park. We are very close to the park entrance a half mile to the Duck Brook road which takes you the most amazing biking and hiking the states can offer. Very easy to park up to 5 or 6 cars here. We sleep 12 in beds and then there are pull out couches as well. We offer a free to use gas grill for outside grilling, free high speed internet and a variety of DVD's . If you are a party of 12 , we are at $46.00 per night which in Bar Harbor in August is an amazing deal.

Our family of 8 adults enjoyed the location of Carolyn's place for the close proximity to hiking trails and to Bar Harbor. There were plenty of beds/seating for all and a well-equipped kitchen for cooking meals. We enjoyed seeing the deer and fawn in the yard and woods, and also picking a few ripe raspberries and blueberries near the front door. Carolyn was friendly and easy to communicate with.

Great quaint and secluded house, very close to downtown Bar Harbor as well as Acadia National Park. We went with a group and it had more than enough space for us. Carolyn was very responsive when we had questions and helpful. We had a great time.
