Our home is on beautiful Seymour Lake on the outskirts of Wasilla. A great pit stop for those on their way north to Talkeetna, Denali & Fairbanks or for those just looking for a quiet evening out of town. Find comfort in knowing you are entering a family home where both hosts are military veterans.

Matt is also a flight instructor. If you are an experienced pilot or have never been in an airplane before, there are plenty of opportunities to get into the air and experience the local area!

The space
The area you will be staying is in the downstairs, mother-in-law portion of our home. There are 2 guest rooms, a full bathroom, laundry room, kitchenette and living room area. We live on a lake in a woodsy area, you should expect all things that come with those elements, this is not a hotel and boasts a modern, yet Alaskan vibe. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel and white glove/spotless, mint on the pillow experience, this home is NOT for you.

Guest access
Access to guest area is a short walk around the right side of the house to the back patio. If I am here to greet you, I will escourt you down to the space and give you the key. If I am not here, I will arrange a way for you to get the key.

Other things to note
While we don't operate as a B&B, I will often have granola bars or snacks out for you to have, as well as coffee. There is also a hot plate, mini fridge and microwave, along with pot, pan, mini crockpot and a few baking utensils. The reason this is a kid friendly home is because we have young kids ourselves. You will more than likely hear scampering of feet, the occasional dropped toy, opening of doors and children noises during their bedtimes and when they wake up(7am & 9pm). We are NOT a hotel, this is a home that a family lives in; it's a much more organic experience but not for everyone. We encourage families with children and guests typically use our space to rest their heads before heading off on their adventures the day, rarely do we have people hang out in the space all day, its not really designed like that.

Wasilla, Alaska, United States

We live in a quiet, very safe, lake community with residents ranging old to young. People in Alaska love meeting people not from Alaska and are very friendly! Don't be surprised if you get wrangled into a boat ride, invited to a bbq or sucked into a deep Alaskan adventure conversation with the neighbors. Seymour Lake is a motorized lake so you will often see boaters, jet-skiers, fisherman and float planes taking off and landing. Besides motorized traffic we also have wild life on and around the lake, most mornings we wake up to the Loons calling each other across the lake and have seen eagles, swans, ducks, terns, muskrats, cranes, moose and much more around the lake and our home. The lake is also stocked with fish so you will often see fisherman trying to reel in a big one, you are welcome to cast off from our dock and give it a try(fishing poles not provided). You are welcome to use our canoe and kayaks at your own risk!

We are the Steele family and welcome you into our home. There are 5 of us, in our family; My husband Matt, me, our daughter Leila(age 9),our daughter Nora(4.5 years) and our baby boy. Ramsom(2.5 years). We are a hard working family built on military values and humble beginnings but have a fun/silly nature about us. We enjoy living in Alaska and spend out free time going on adventures fishing, hiking, camping, flying and so much more! Both Matt and I have traveled a lot around the United States and have some time out of the United States when we were deployed in the military, we enjoy staying in B&Bs when we can. Like I mentioned we are beer enthusiasts as well as have appreciation for some good old 80s & 90s music!

My husband and I have been in Alaska for a combined time of over 30 years and encourage any questions you may have. We have traveled much of the state from Dutch Harbor to Juneau and from Kodiak to Fox. We like to say you could live here a lifetime and never experience it all and will provide you with what knowledge we have on the the outdoors, travel, places to eat, sights to see (or not see) and much more!
