The stone cottage, which was modernized in 2002 is situated in the very authentic village of Kounoupitsa at an altitude of 120 meters on the vulcanic peninsula of Methana. It is placed in a large garden with rocks and very old huge olive trees. From its terrace one has a fascinating view of the islands in the Saronic Gulf. It is situated 1,5km from the sea and not more than 3km from various beeches.

We spent a lovely week at Hubert's. The view and landscape are just fantastic. For anybody looking for a very relaxing experience of genuine Greece, this is the place. On arriving, you will (briefly) experience a feeling you have reached the end of the world (and, yes, as Hubert recommends, you'd better do your groceries before you ever enter the peninsula) but very rapidly you feel nicely accustomed to the charm and kindness of the local people and the environment. This is the best place to relax just contemplating the view. The house matches the description provided. We were very warmly welcomed by Hubert and his wife. The house is very well equipped with anything you need to cook. There aren't any words to describe how quiet the environment is, days and nights. Our host was not far and always available for chat and advice. We spent lots of time at the beach down the road, a nice family place.

I have been married for 50 years to my Greek wife Panagiota Kourbeti. When I retired from my position as chief of the research department at Goethe-Institut I settled partly in Greece and achieved Villa Galini at Kounoupitsa, where I spend a great part of the year writing articles and books on Greek civilization. I am also a friend of good Greek food and wine.
