Pretty beachfront house in the quaint fishing village of El Cuyo on the Yucatan Peninsula, 3 hours from Cancún, 2 hours from UNESCO world heritage center, Chichén Itzá, and three and a half hours from the colonial city of Merida, capital of the Yucatan State.

The space

This lovely beachside home features all you need for a tranquil get-away from it all. Enjoy the privacy of your own home on the sand, with a full kitchen and bath, and an updated modern interior mixed with the traditions of the Yucatan.

El Cuyo is a charming fishing village that is a hidden treasure of the Yucatan coast. Here you can enjoy the tranquility of life by the sea, read a good book, walk along the beach, and take in beautiful sunsets. Kiteboarding, paddle boarding, kayaking and sports fishing are readily available.

This quiet and charming village on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula is nestled in the National Park of Ria Lagartos, the home of sea turtles that visit the beach shores between June and August to lay their eggs in the warm sand.

With more than 250 varieties of birds, Río Lagartos is internationally famous for bird watching. As you arrive in El Cuyo, you cross over a red lagoon -- the color is the result of a high concentration of salt. The red water in the lagoon is the source of the color of over 20,000 pink flamingos that make their home here between January and September!

Perfect place in El Cuyo, Saydi was always in contact to answer all of our questions. The house is beautiful and we felt right at home. We could not swim in the sea or go on the beach because of the re cent hurricanes. There where mountains of sea weed. If you are planning to go soon, just ask if it cleared up. The house ran out of electricity because of storms, just make shure you have enough water to tough it out. All of this just added to the charm of this little perfect place. Try out the pescaderia to get your freshly fished pulpo and the little bakery in town.

What a gem. As described, the house is right on the beach, is clean and cozy, and is a short walk to "town," which has a few mini supers where you can buy eggs, fruit, vegetables, instant coffee, and the like - but if you want anything else you should probably bring it in from Tizimin or wherever you're coming in from. There are also some little restaurants where you can get great fish dishes and other prepared meals. El Cuyo is a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Merida (or maybe your daily life), so just prepared for a fairly desolate, quiet and tiny beach town. If that's what you're looking for, look no further than Saydi's place, which was absolutely perfect for lounging by the beach and exploring the quaint fishing village.

We had a very nice time at El Cuyo! Saydi was very welcoming, and was always available for us. The Apartment is very luxurious, although there is no air conditioning. We had bad luck with the electricity, there were several power cuts. The kitchen is small but practical, the bathroom is clean, the beds are comfortable. Altogether we had a great time there, especially because the beach is right next to the house. Thanks a lot!

It is a small beach house is wonderful to be in silence and peace with your self. Is a bit warm because there is not air condition. As is a warm place bugs are fast to reach food leftovers and smells on kitchen are strong if the trash is not taken out fast. However you can spot some sea life small whales, dolphins and turtles. The fishers sell they products such as lobster, fishes, shrimps, octopus. They come from the sea around 15 or 16 hrs. You can rent a paddle and swim in the warm waters. And take the trip to see the flamingos which are not there always but in a close lagoon. There is not fresh coffe so take your own bag, also speaker!

My boyfriend and I were completely new traveling to the Yucatan from Los Angeles. We were looking for a quiet beach front home and Saydi's place was perfection! She had everything to make our stay easy and welcoming. Before coming Saydi and I were in communication willing to answer any questions I had prior to coming, which was great since this was all new to us. When we arrived we met Saydi's mom and she showed us around. She was the sweetest, very thorough in showing us the house and what we needed to know. And we also met Valente, who worked for Saydi, he was friendly and a very sweet man. Both were very eager to help us with any questions we had. During our stay, there was a small storm and the electricity when out on the block. As soon as we let Saydi know, she was quick to help us get things back to normal. Honestly, without the power, we were fine reading by candle light and we played Scrabble (one of the games at the house) so it was a bit fun for our trip. In the mornings we would go out for a swim and that was the best part of the day. The beach was almost always completely empty. The water is clean with almost no waves. It seemed more towards the afternoon when waves would come and we saw some kite surfers -which was fun to watch. And at night we would sometimes watch TV which was fun and silly for us to follow. We are so glad to have found El Cuyo, the town is small and quiet. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to drive from Cancun airport to El Cuyo and following the road signs was pretty easy. I did find it hard to find a store with good produce-- but we managed. Also traveling to nearby towns is not that big of a deal, like Colonia Yucatan. And my Spanish is poor, but everyone in Mexico we met was amazing and friendly to help us. We would love to revisit the beautiful beach and house again in El Cuyo.
