Description

Just minutes walk from the centre of bustling market town, Totnes, Garden Cottage is hidden away down a quiet street with no through traffic. It's beautifully fitted and furnished complete with a wood burning stove and has a delightful private garden

Although just a few minutes walk from the centre of the bustling market town of Totnes, Garden Cottage is hidden away down a quiet street with no through traffic and the loudest sound is usually the birds in the trees. There is a private parking space and then you approach the cottage through its private and very sunny garden.

Totnes is a fantastic base to explore South Devon. It has a great selection of shops, cafes and restaurants but is also close to some fantastic beaches and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor. There are also some great walks from the door.

The cottage was originally the changing rooms for a tennis court that belonged to the grand house next door, but it been beautifully and tastefully converted into a luxurious cottage perfect for a couple. However one additional adult or child can be accommodated on the sofabed in the open plan sitting room and kitchen.

There is a good sized open plan living room with a stylish galley kitchen, dining table and chairs, comfortable sofa, flat-screen wall-mounted TV, Wifi internet connection and a wood burning stove. Beyond that you reach the large and very bright double bedroom. The bedroom has a king-sized (6ft) double bed that can be split into 2 singles for maximum flexibility. Next door to the bedroom is a luxury bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Well-equipped kitchen has utensils and crockery chosen with real care. There's also a, washing machine, dishwasher, free wifi and a flat-screen TV. The cottage has its own private parking space (a rarity in Totnes) but is also only 15 minutes walk from Totnes mainline station with direct trains to Bristol, London and beyond.

There are also some fantastic walks and bike rides from the door. The walk/bike ride up the hill to the Sharpham Estate is particularly recommended and you can combine that with a visit to taste some of the excellent local wines at Sharpham Vineyard.

A bustling medieval market town on a beautiful river with great walking, canoeing and swimming and just a few miles from fabulous beaches or Dartmoor. What's not to like?

Yes, mainline train to London from Totnes is less than 15 minutes walk.

Great location and Totnes is a lovely interesting town to visit with superb places to eat and buy great local food. The town is easily accessible on foot from the cottage and its fun to explore the little lanes down to the High Street. Coast and estuary walks all from the door as well. Bedroom is very comfortable with extremely comfortable bed . Bathroom and Kitchen well equipped with pretty much everything you need for a short break. I think the lounge and the sofa need a bit of an upgrade in terms of comfort and cosiness before the whole place can be considered luxurious. Was spotlessly clean .

Quiet location, a short walk to Totnes, the cottage is modern and well appointed. Wi-Fi is good (although mobile signal weak) and the welcome is fulsome. Kitchen well appointed and King-Size bed very comfortable.

We loved the location, a short walk to the town centre. The place really felt like our own and it was a memorable way to see in the new year.

This is a really lovely place to stay. In a quiet location but only 5 minutes walk from the town centre. Would definitely go back.

The cottage was lovely- really cosy once we had the fire on and a perfect space to enjoy the town from for our nights stay. Communication could have been a bit better but once we were in all was great. Apologies again we thought check out was at 12!

I moved out of London in summer 2010 to Devon. Married with two teenage sons and in my spare time into cycling (on and off road), trail running. skiing and the occasional triathlon.
In the past I worked as a journalist & magazine publisher but more recently have run my own companies: a dating company, a travel company and now my agency.
I'm happy with lots of styles of travelling. I have particularly fond memories of cycle camping around Europe. But a bit of luxury can be good too.
