Enjoy your cozy backyard cottage. Fully fenced in by a privacy fence, you'll have access to a lush and tropical backyard. Use the firepit, charcoal grill or lounge under the mango tree on the brick patio. Inside you'll have a fully equipped kitchen, comfy full size bed, 48'' flat screen smart TV, fast internet and record player/stereo. We have all you need for a comfortable stay for vacation or business travel right in the middle of the city with quick access to everything via uber/lyft or car.

The space

This 334 square foot cottage is a converted wood shop. It is detached and in the back yard of our 1930 Craftsman Bungalow. There are two sets of gates that lead to the back yard, the 6.5 foot privacy fence will leave you feeling very secluded despite being in the heart of the city.

It is cozy and inviting and will cater to whatever your needs may be. The space is ideal for 1 or 2 people but can accommodate up to 4 if you don't mind close quarters.

Guest access

You will have sole access to the cottage and everything in it. The kitchen is newly remodeled and well equipped for cooking full meals. We keep it stocked with coffee, tea, sugar, oil, vinegar, a full set of spices/herbs, oatmeal and fruit. You are welcome to any other food that is in the cabinets, fridge or freezer.

When you stay, the brick patio attached to the studio is all yours. There is a charcoal grill and a fire pit for you to enjoy. We have a large supply of firewood stacked in the driveway that you are welcome to use.

Interaction with guests

Most of the time we will be home if you need anything. We love taking camping/kayaking trips around Florida though, so sometimes we may not be around during your stay.

Other things to note

We have a large mango tree in the back yard so you may hear the occasional mango drop on the roof, please don't be alarmed and help yourself to all the mangos you want :-)

So thankful we chose this property. Such a gorgeous place with amazing links to downtown, ybor, and easy access out to St Petersburg and the beaches. Your input, help and advice was amazing for places to go and visit. Our meal at the Rooster and the Till has been the highlight of our holiday! It was amazing to meet you both and to spend some time with you and the pets around the grill and fire pit. We would happily come and stay again ANY TIME!!!

The description of the location gave me the impression that the location was better than it was. The neighborhood was described as “an emerging historic urban area” when it was actually quite intimidating and I would definitely not encourage individual travelers to walk around alone. The term Oasis for the space is accurate as it is wonderful once you are on the property. I travel each week and have to live by the honesty and accuracy of the descriptions. Although I admire them converting their garage to an apartment, it would be kinder to describe the neighborhood for what it currently is as opposed to what it may eventually become. I would not want my wife to stay here by herself.

Response from Josiah:
Thank you for your feedback David. I would like to point out that in our listing description after "an emerging historic urban area" we write "my wife and I have always felt very safe here but some people might not if they haven't lived in a tight urban environment before." Ybor City is actually a U.S. Historic Landmark District. If you had walked around our neighborhood you would have seen many stunning restored Craftsman Bungalows, Shotgun Bungalows and Spanish Casitas. I will add a note in our listing about the homes in disrepair as well as the homeless shelters in close proximity which I understand some might find intimidating. The vast majority of our guests love the neighborhood and great location (central to everything) but for some it is not their cup of tea and we understand that. I would encourage anyone taking the time to read this to also read the review immediately before from Curtis since it is the exact opposite. My wife has been walking our dogs alone and after midnight for 3 years, we have not had the slightest problem and we have many friends in the neighborhood who do the same. In the future we hope that you would consider staying in our cottage again but we understand if it’s not for you. Thank you! - Josiah and Elaina

Perfect place with or without transportation. Just a few blocks walk to the trolley station-in Ybor. Wonderful restaurants, entertainment and then a quick ride on the trolley into Tampa. Well set up for guest and very well-kept. Extremely comfortable and very relaxing. Would definitely stay again.

The cottage was perfect! The space was perfect for our weekend excursion. The kitchen was so well equipped we didn’t bother going out to eat when we had all the amenities we needed. The decor and little touches were so thoughtful and really made us feel at home. When in town again we will definitely be back!

Wow Elaina and Josiah's Tampa place is amazing! Easy location and so many great touches at their casita made it very comfortable: loved the local books, art, smart tv, great coffee and apples, and a very thorough and inspiring local guidebook! Elaina and I communicated the most and she is super friendly and full of great info. Would definitely stay here again :)

Nice folks though I rarely saw them. Very helpful with an unplanned and very early check in. The neighborhood is a bit edgier than most. The cottage was the best provisioned of any I’ve stayed at in 4 straight months of bnb’ing. (Hendrick’s gin!)

As a touring guitar technician I am constantly on the road. That means staying in hotels pretty regularly. When my wife (Elaina) and I travel together we bypass the pricey, uncomfortable hotels and prefer to use Airbnb. While we love to see different cities, we really love to get away and spend our time in nature. Elaina and I are new to hosting with Airbnb, but are excited to provide a comfortable, well-equipped space. While I may not always be available due to my travel schedule, Elaina is just a phone call away should you have any inconveniences during your stay.
