Casa Kela is nestled in the quaint village of Pelada and a short walking distance to stunning beaches, a variety of restaurants and a well stocked mini-super. A short hike takes you to the unsurpassed surf and all of the activity of Guiones Beach. Although there are many things to discover a short walk or drive from Casa Kela, you will enjoy just hanging out at home lounging around swimming pool, making meals in the outdoor kitchen, or napping in the hammock under the palms.

The space

Casa Kela is a spacious, safe and comfortable three bedroom home located in Playa Pelada. Just a short, 8 minute walk to the beach, Casa Kela is also conveniently located within walking distance to some of the areas best restaurants, like la Luna, El Chivo and El Pepperoni as well as La Bodega, a small local grocery that also serves coffee, smoothies and fresh baked goods. Playa Pelada is also the home of the best sunset spot within miles -Olga's- where you can catch all of the locals, expats and visitors who gather there for the nightly sunset ritual! If you are looking to surf, just a twenty minute walk along the beach, puts you on Guiones Beach where you can enjoy world class surf. By car or quad it will take only a few minutes.
Casa Kela has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master suite includes the biggest, deepest and most comfortable king-sized mattress ever, as well as a walk-in closet, walk in glass and tiled shower with a built in bench and double sink vanity. The master suite has a door that leads directly out to the pool for late night dips and is separated from the additional bedrooms by the living space, kitchen and long hallway.
The kitchen, stocked by the original owners who planned on retiring there, is fully loaded with every imaginable kitchen implement including a gas range and oven, full sized refrigerator and freezer, microwave and everything else you could possible need or want during your stay. And guess what? The tap water is very good for drinking! The open kitchen looks onto the living area which has a large couch, love seat and coffee table.
Off of the kitchen a hallway leads to a full bath and two bedrooms. Both equipped with ample closet space, dressers, cabinets and night stands. All of the bedrooms and living areas have ceiling fans and individual, modern air conditioning units. The bathroom has a soaking tub and shower.
There is a re-enforced, walk in safe to store your valuables while you are out and about. Although Casa Kela has never been compromised it is best to keep your valuable things, especially electronics, safe or with you at all times. Off of the living area a glass door leads you out into the pool area where you will find comfortable seating under a covered area, for reading and lounging, or in the sun, by our beautiful custom tile pool that includes a long lap lane for swimming as well as room to splash and play in. An outdoor gas grill, gas burner and sink, make preparing meals outside a breeze! There is also a huge outdoor shower and hammock to nap or read in. Our outdoor area is very near our next door neighbors outdoor area and is separated by a concrete wall. We ask that you respect the close proximity and stay mindful of noise levels. They are fantastic people who have lived there many years and can be quite helpful. They also help provide a level of security and inside knowledge unavailable to most visitors.
Also within walking distance on a gorgeous hiking trail that begins on the beach, is the river mouth where the Nosara River meets the sea. There is a lovely little "Tico" hangout there serving cold drinks and "Tipico" food. (Tico, is the name for the local people and tipico is used to describe local, typical food.) Horseback riding is available there, as is stand-up paddle boarding and river kayaking. There is so much to enjoy without ever having to drive from Casa Kela, but with a car you can explore Nosara proper where one can experience the real local culture, or head twenty miles north for stunning beaches, snorkeling and turtles, or south to The Nosara Yoga Institute, for daily classes and a variety of shops and restaurants to suit every palate and taste.

Guest access

Guests have complete access to our entire casa.

Interaction with guests

Most of the time we will not be near the site, but we do have a management company to look after Casa Kela when we are away. There is also a gardener that comes twice a week and once a week pool service as well. We are always available by phone, text and email.

Other things to note

We can not stress enough the importance of refraining from flushing anything down the toilet. All paper (tp) must be thrown in the garbage can.

The water supply may be turned off at times to conserve water during the dry season. When this happens it is usually in the evening and through the night. In the dry season February-April make sure you have ample water jugs full of water for rinsing, etc. just use the tap water! Pool water can be used for flushing toilets if needed.

- It is absolutely imperative that nothing is flushed in the toilets! No toilet paper, feminine products-NOTHING. Throw all used TP in the trash. The septic systems here are very fragile.

Also, the pool filter basket needs to be emptied daily and the pool should be skimmed.

In an effort to conserve energy, if you decide to use the air conditioning, please turn it off whenever you leave the house.

We had a great time at Casa Kela!! It was our first time in Costa Rica and this place allowed us to experience Costa Rica as if we lived here. We spent about 2 weeks here. It was a perfect house for our family of 5. It was private enough but were close to everything in Pelada. We also ended up at Playa Guiones often to hit the beach, take surf lessons or find a new place to eat. The kids had their two rooms to share and we had a great private master with plenty of room and gorgeous bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare a lot of our meals at home (toaster, pots, pans, utensils, coffee maker and even a blender for some smoothies). The outdoor shower was great for coming back from the beach every day. We also enjoyed the patio and pool just about every day. It was always clean and big enough for me to swim some laps and our kids to play. The neighbors were very friendly and felt good to have them close if we ever needed anything. We were able to see some interesting wildlife while sitting in the backyard and heard the monkeys every day. I spent some time reading in the hammock or working on the back patio. The wifi was great! We were comfortable, safe and happy to have stayed here. Laura and Kelly were very helpful and responsive and gave some great recommendations for us while we were in Costa RIca. The only things we had to get used to were no toilet paper in the toilet, which even with young kids, we easily adjusted. The area of Playa Pelada was great. It was more quiet and private than Playa Guiones. We were able to enjoy both while there. Pelada has some great spots for eating. La Luna and El Chivo were our favorites that we frequented multiple times. The pizza place was also good for a easy kids meal. The bodega next to El Chivo had most of everything we needed to eat at home and was close by. Playa Pelada (at the beach) was a close and more private beach. Great for relaxing. This beach does have some powerful waves and currents so please be careful here, especially with little ones. We would stay here again.

We loved this house and pool! It was plenty of room for our group of 6. We cooked several meals to save money and had everything we needed. We enjoyed being close to the beach in Pelada, but decided to rent a golf cart to drive around and get to Guiones and Nosara. Kelly greeted us and also came to the house to check us out. She was very helpful and was easy to get a hold of during our stay. Awesome trip!!

The place worked out perfectly for my family of 5. We really loved the pool and the outdoor kitchen and it was a nice walk to the beach in a very quiet neighborhood. My only complaint is the water shut off daily at 4pm and didn't come back on until the next morning and the last day it shut off at noon, so you need to plan ahead. I believe this only happens during the dry season.

Casa Kela is fantastic! It is the perfect getaway from busy city living. It is an eight minute walk from Playa Pelada, the less busy and touristy of the Nosara beaches. It is also walking distance to great local restaurants El Chivo and La Luna. What you should know about the place - Casa Kela is surprisingly spacious, the pictures do not do it justice. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. We loved hanging out by the pool, and making dinner in the outdoor kitchen. We were lucky enough to have Howler monkeys visit one morning. If you are looking for a relaxing retreat Casa Kela won't disappoint. We will definitely be booking it the next time we visit Nosara.

Response from Laura:
Thank you so much Tom! In addition to being a fantastic guest you saved my life by leaving the last of your rum and a few good snacks in the fridge! After a delayed flight with virtually no food all day smoked oysters and rum never tasted so good! Thank you!! Laura
