The Old Dairy is within walking distance of the centre of Midhurst which lies at the heart of the South Downs National Park and is surrounded by beautiful countryside and a wealth of walking opportunities.

Enjoy walking or mountain-biking on the South Downs Way (local bike hire available), explore the beautiful National Trust gardens at Woolbeding, Polo at Cowdray Park or the fantastic sandy beach at West Wittering. Goodwood is a short drive away.

The space
The Old Dairy is a detached, single storey property adjacent to our family home and sharing a driveway which forms a courtyard between the two properties.

The open plan living area has a full kitchen with fridge (including small freezer compartment) oven (with integral grill), hob, extractor fan, microwave oven, washing machine, kettle & toaster. There is a table and chairs for two, a sofa and a smart TV with freeview, catch up, Amazon Prime and Netflix (you will need your own subscription to access Amazon Prime and Netflix) together with a Bluetooth speaker and a selection of books and games. There is also a full length mirror.

The living area is separated from the bedroom by a sliding door.

The bedroom has a double bed, pocket sprung mattress with memory foam top layer and king size quilt. The duvet and pillows are feather and down. Within the bedroom, there is a freestanding bath with hand held spray attachment, toilet & sink together with Cole & Lewis toiletries. There is a privacy screen separating the two functions but it is essentially open plan (please see photos 9 and 10) Please note that there is no shower. Double glass doors open on to the patio. There are muslin curtains at the doors to provide additional privacy during the day without blocking the light. There is also a chest of drawers, peg rail with clothes hangers and a fan. There is a second TV (with Freeview) which is mounted on a swivelling bracket and may be watched from the bed or bath.

There are USB charging points in the living area and bedroom (android and iphone charging cables are also supplied)

The Old Dairy has under floor heating and a combination boiler which provides hot water on demand.

Outside to the rear is a small patio area with a table and chairs. There is also an outside light.

To the front is a shared parking area with 1 guest parking space.

Guest access
The Old Dairy is completely available for guest use together with the guest patio and 1 guest parking space.

Other things to note
Accommodation is provided on a self-catering basis. I will provide a selection of Clipper fair trade and organic teas and coffees, single serve sachets of sugar and a small bottle of semi-skimmed milk together with a small pot of cafetiere coffee. Also supplied are condiments and cooking oil, washing up basics, tea towels, kitchen roll, foil and cling film.

Bicycle hire is available locally. If you would like to bring your own then you are welcome to store them on the guest patio.

See and Do

Eating Out
Stroll to Comestibles for breakfast or a light lunch or sit outside the Cowdray Café or Gartons Coffee House on a summer’s day. Ice cream from Fitzcane’s is always a treat. Enjoy a meal and a glass of wine (or two!) at the family run Italian restaurant La Piazetta without worrying about the (very) short walk home. If your preference is for a country pub the Royal Oak at West Lavington is also within walking distance (just!) and has a large garden with views to the South Downs.

Eating In
Stock up on local seasonal produce at the Cowdray Farm Shop or frozen meals from COOK prepared as you would at home. Take away at Lime & Spice (Indian), The Golden Leaf (Chinese), La Piazetta (Italian) or Ocean Blue (fish & chips). Also worth a visit are Michael Courtney Butchers and The Midhurst Bakery.

Walking & Cycling
Leave the car at home and explore Midhurst Common (turn right at our gate), meander along the River Rother (2.8 miles) or follow the Woolbeding and Easebourne walking trail (10 miles) all directly from your front door. Enjoy the surrounding countryside from a different perspective atop an e-bike hired from All Ride Now.

Days Out
Potter around Midhurst’s quirky independent shops, watch polo at Cowdray Park or learn to play at the Polo Academy. Experience fly fishing on the River Rother, clay shooting at the Hownhall Shooting School or golf at Cowdray Park Golf Club. Wander around Woolbeding Gardens or indulge in a spa day at The Spread Eagle Hotel. After dark, enjoy star studded skies whilst snugly wrapped in blankets (the South Downs National Park became an International Dark Sky Reserve in May 2016)

Further Resources
The Visit Midhurst website and the South Downs Centre (website and tourist information) offer lots of inspiration to help you plan your trip.

THE SURROUNDING AREA

Eating Out
Whatever the weather a country pub always hits the spot. Think roaring fires in winter and alfresco dining in summer……..Try The Fox Goes Free (Charlton), The Noah’s Ark Inn (Lurgashall), The Duke of Cumberland Arms (Henley) or The Forresters Arms (Graffham). Banyan in Fernhurst is also worth a visit (Indian).

Walking & Cycling
Join the South Downs Way at the nearby village of Cocking (there is a car park to your right as you ascend out of Cocking and it is easily accessible by bus). Walk or cycle the Centurion Way, a five mile path that runs between West Dean and Chichester. Enjoy the far reaching views or fly a kite from the top of the Trundle near Goodwood Racecourse. Marvel at the ancient yew trees at Kingley Vale and enjoy a coffee in the pretty courtyard café at Design Vintage on the way home. See if you can catch the Vaporetto pizza van for an alfresco picnic prior to an early evening walk at the Devil’s Punchbowl.

Days Out
Shop for antiques in the pretty market town of Petworth or visit Petworth House & Park (National Trust). Experience all the fun of the Edwardian fairground at the Hollycombe Steam Collection. Discover 1000 years of English rural life at the Weald & Downland Living Museum (the location for the TV series the Repair Shop). Enjoy a gentle walk around the restored grounds of West Dean Gardens. Have a flutter on the horses at Goodwood Racecourse or attend a race meeting at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, home to the Member’s Meeting, Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival. Discover Chichester Cathedral or enjoy a performance at the Chichester Festival Theatre, one of the UK’s flagship theatres. Just beyond Chichester are the beautiful white sandy beach at West Wittering and the enchanting village of Bosham. Delight in the charming ancient market town of Arundel with its impressive medieval Castle and wealth of walking opportunities.

I moved here in June 2016 with my husband, Alistair and our two teenagers (one of each!) I am most often to be found with a paint brush or gardening implement to hand (or a gin and tonic if it is the end of a long day!) I enjoy baking, going for long walks in the countryside, and pilates. I have just started learning to speak Italian as we love to go to Italy on our holidays. I look forward to welcoming you to my home!
