The Cowshed is within walking distance of the centre of Midhurst. Midhurst lies in the heart of the South Downs National Park and is surrounded by beautiful countryside and a wealth of walking opportunities.

Enjoy walking or mountain-biking on the South Downs Way (local bike hire available), explore the beautiful National Trust gardens at Woolbeding, Polo at Cowdray Park or the fantastic sandy beach at West Wittering. Goodwood is a short drive away.

The space
The Cowshed is a detached, single storey former dairy adjacent to our family home and sharing a driveway which forms a courtyard between the two properties.

The open plan living area has a full kitchen with fridge (including small freezer compartment) oven (with integral grill), hob, extractor fan, microwave oven, washing machine, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle & toaster. There is a table and chairs for two, a sofa, footstool and a 42 inch TV with freeview, Amazon Prime and Netflix (you will need your own subscription to access Amazon Prime and Netflix) together with a Bluetooth speaker and a selection of books and games. There is also a full length mirror.

The living area is separated from the bedroom by a sliding door.

The bedroom has a king bed and a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam top layer. The duvet and pillows are feather and down (I can make up the bed with non feather alternatives if you have an allergy to feather and down, please message me prior to your stay) Double glass doors open on to the terrace. There are muslin curtains at the doors to provide additional privacy during the day without blocking the light. There is also a wardrobe, chest of drawers, fan and a 32 inch TV (with Freeview, catch-up, Amazon Prime & Netflix)

***THE BATHROOM (including the toilet) IS OPEN TO THE BEDROOM (the wardrobe acts as a room divider providing a privacy screen)*** Please ensure that you are comfortable with this arrangement prior to booking.

Within the bedroom, there is a freestanding bath with hand held spray attachment, toilet & sink together with toiletries from the Sea Kelp range by The Scottish Fine Soaps Company. Towels are also supplied. ***PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO SHOWER***

There are USB charging points in the living area and bedroom (android and iphone charging cables are also supplied)

The Cowshed has under floor heating and a combi boiler which provides hot water on demand.

Outside to the rear is a small terrace with a table and chairs, two sunloungers and a view to our garden. There is also an outside light. Space is limited so all of the furniture folds when not in use. Our cocker spaniels Digger & Freddie may come over and say hello if you are sitting outside!

To the front is a shared parking area with 1 guest parking space. There is also a bench for guests to use for putting on/taking off walking boots or to sit in the sun with a coffee or glass of wine.

Guest access
The Cowshed is just for guests together with the terrace and 1 guest parking space.

Other things to note
We are located in a residential lane within a short walking distance of the town of Midhurst. It is possible to access hiking trails directly from the front door but we are not 'in the middle of nowhere'.

I only use natural and eco friendly cleaning and laundry products.

Accommodation is provided on a self-catering basis. I will provide a selection of teas and coffees, sugar and a small bottle of semi-skimmed milk. Also supplied are condiments and cooking oil, washing up basics, tea towels, kitchen roll, foil and cling film.

Bicycle hire is available locally or you are welcome to bring your own.

MIDHURST at the heart of the South Downs National Park

Eating Out
Stroll to Comestibles for breakfast or a light lunch or sit outside the Cowdray Café or Gartons Coffee House on a summer’s day. Ice cream from Fitzcane’s is always a treat. If your preference is for a country pub the Royal Oak at West Lavington is also within walking distance (just!) and has a large garden with views to the South Downs. It’s a great choice for Sunday lunch if you don’t want to take the car. Enjoy Italian food and wine at Fratellis without worrying about the very short walk home!

Eating In
Stock up on local seasonal produce at the Cowdray Farm Shop or frozen meals from COOK prepared as you would at home. Takeaway at Lime & Spice (Indian), The Golden Leaf (Chinese)and Ocean Blue (fish & chips).

Walking & Cycling
Leave the car at home and explore Midhurst Common (turn right at our gate), meander along the River Rother (2.8 miles) or follow the Woolbeding and Easebourne walking trail (10 miles) all directly from your front door. Enjoy the surrounding countryside from a different perspective atop an e-bike hired from All Ride Now

Experience fly fishing on the River Rother, clay shooting at the Hownhall Shooting School or golf at Cowdray Park Golf Club (all bookable through the Cowdray Estate website) Wander around Woolbeding Gardens or indulge in a spa day at The Spread Eagle Hotel. Watch the sunset from sunset hill (turn right out of our gate and continue onto Midhurst Common at the top of the lane with the cemetery to your left, shortly after a left hand bend you will see a house called Cherries to your left. Turn right here and keep going until you come to a viewing point with a bench, this is sunset hill. Continue in the same direction when you are ready to return and you will have taken a loop back to Cherries) or enjoy a moonlit picnic at nearby Iping Common and explore star studded skies with the SkyView app whilst snugly wrapped in blankets (the South Downs National Park became an International Dark Sky Reserve in May 2016)

Lives in Midhurst, United Kingdom
I moved here in June 2016 with my husband Alistair, our son Ted and daughter Eve. We have two cocker spaniels, Digger & Freddie. I am most often to be found with a paint brush or gardening implement to hand (or a gin and tonic if it is the end of a long day!) I enjoy baking, going for long walks in the countryside with the dogs, and all things Italian. I look forward to welcoming you to my home!
