Villa 232 is a cosy hide-away whose back garden gate opens directly onto beautiful Dutch Bay. It has recently been lovingly restored, maintaining the footprint of its original, quirky and narrow Sri Lankan design, while incorporating a feel of crisp yet rustic modern comfort. Tucked unassumingly into charming residential Dyke Street, the villa is perfect for a couple looking for a unique romantic beach home, or can serve as a cosy beachfront get-away for groups of up to four.

The space

Villa 232 is a townhouse on a quaint residential street that backs right onto the crystal clear turquoise waters of Dutch Bay. Along with our neighbouring property Villa 238 it is closer to the ocean than any other villa we know of in Sri Lanka - the back garden gate opens directly onto the beautiful beach.

The bedroom and living room are air conditioned. The living room has a 40" TV with cable TV and a home library of movies and TV shows for guests to enjoy. A stereo system and portable bluetooth speaker are also provided.

Right outside the villa on the beach guests can relax on cushioned sunbeds under a large umbrella.

Guest access

Guest will have their own keys and the whole place to themselves, with staff available when needed for cleaning, sweeping etc.

Interaction with guests

The owners Kian and Janah usually stay nearby, a few doors down on the same street. We have an unobtrusive style of hosting - we will do everything we can to make your stay comfortable and you will be able to reach us 24/7 with any questions / concerns. You will have the place completely to yourself with your own set of keys - nobody will be in your way unless you request it.
We are always more than happy to provide any help, advice or local tips that we can about sightseeing around Trincomalee / Sri Lanka etc.

Other things to note

Free wifi, complimentary mineral water, quality tea and coffee and complimentary toiletries are provided.

Two bicycles are provided for guest to use.

A full cooked Sri Lankan or Western Breakfast is included. Other meals available on request.

We also provide info and can advise you on all the various eating out / take-away / and delivery options in the area.

October to March is the rainy season in Sri Lanka's North-East. (The opposite timing to the South West of the island.) There is still a perfectly good chance of sunny days and weeks. However throughout this period (and from our experience especially in November, December and January) rain is quite possible and the sea and beach conditions may well be different than they are in the pictures from high season. (Low season pricing is set accordingly).
All this applies to the entire North East of Sri Lanka of course - we just want to make sure our guests know what to expect at that time of year :)

What a superb stay. We were very well looked after by Grace who kept our bellies full with culinary delights. The villa is in a wonderful location with the beautiful Indian Ocean on the doorstep, always buzzing with the locals fishing from the shore. The beds were very comfortable and we were cooled nicely with the quiet air conditioning units. We have made many wonderful memories from our 4 days here and would highly recommend this place to anyone else venturing to Trincomalee. Tom, Tiz, Natty (7) and Freddie (3).

Fantastic spot for a break in Trinco. On a lovely residential street, and opening directly onto the beach! Sea was great to swim in. Beach quiet and tidy, given the central location, and we enjoyed pottering around town by tuk-tuk. Good takeaway options and we enjoyed Grace's cooking. Really helpful communication with Kian throughout.

Gorgeous property, stylishly decorated and with a fantastic position right on the beachside. The beach itself is clean and family friendly, the sea is clear and wonderful for swimming in. Grace, the housekeeper, is smiley and friendly and is an incredible cook, she made us great Sri Lankan breakfasts and we also had her cook us delicious seafood dinners. The neighbourhood is laid back and colourful, a nice place to wander around. We loved our stay here, thank you :)

[not sure when submitting this review whether the form is for Villa 232 or 234...] We stayed as a family in adjacent houses 232 and 234 . Both are very beautifully designed, well-equiped and comfortable. The kitchen in 234 (newest unit) is much easier to work in and cooler than 232 in the extreme heat we experienced in mid-June. Jannah was always available and helpful in answering questions about shopping locally. We relied on Kian and Janah to make arrangements for our return to Colombo for four of us with a local driver and his van, which was luxurious and cost half the price we paid going the other way from Colombo to Trinco. The neighbourhood is definitely friendly and relaxed, making us feel welcome but also fitting in to local life. Well-stocked food and drinks shops are just a 15 minute walk away. If you like to cook, don't miss the huge exciting fruit and veg market where fresh fish is also sold. Highly recommended this location as a special non-touristy place.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic stay at the Villa and would highly recommend it. We originally planned on staying there for 3 nights but we were so relaxed and couldn't get enough of Grace's cooking, that we decided to extend our stay for another 2 nights. Grace (the cook) is the most delightful smiliest person you will meet! And her cooking is just incredible. We absolutely loved it! The villa is in a fantastic location; at the end of the bay (so there aren't too many people around), the villa has direct access onto the beach (with two sun beds and a huge umbrella for you to use) and lastly there are loads of Tuk Tuks around on the next street.

Kian and Janah have created such a beautiful villa. It has some really cool features such as the well in the garden and the slightly open hallway. It was great to have the whole house to ourselves which made a change from staying in hotel or guest rooms. The courtyard area was fab and it was so nice having breakfast and dinner here. It backs right on to the beach where it is lovely to swim and chill. The highlight of our stay has to be Grace's cooking! The dinner was delicious and was one of the best meals we have had in our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. The breakfast pancakes were legendary! It was especially kind of Janah and Kian to give us some to take away. We're so glad we visited Trinco. It was about 2.5 hours in the car from Dambulla but is really worth the drive. The beach here and at nearby Uppaveli have golden sand and we much preferred them to the beaches in the south. Kian and Janah - you're communication was excellent and you have really created a beautiful space. You're welcome was so warm and friendly, thank you! Hopefully we can stay at your other villa sometime in the future!

Such an epic location. Such a good way to finish our trip in Sri Lanka. If we could have stayed longer, we would have. Grace is a wizard in the kitchen. If we could have fit her in our backpack we would have done that too! Fish curry was amazing, hash browns and coconuts pancakes were gangbusters. Most definitely would stay again, and again, and again.
