About this listing

Spacious mongolian yurt in idyllic Asturian landscape with deck, shared use of compost toilet and gas/ solar heated shower. Totally off-grid and so perfect for adventurous types who want a holiday with a low environmental impact. Read our reviews!

The space

BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO BOOK please consider 3 factors very carefully:
*If you are a very nervous driver our access will be challenging for you. However, hundreds of people in all sorts of cars have successfully negotiated it, so you may want to take a chance.
*The yurt kitchen has limited electricity. It cannot support hairdryers, or many hours of computer use. The power is sufficient for basic lighting during the night and for charging phones/laptops during the day (via USB cable).
*If there is no sun for a few days, there will be no electricity! We have a lantern and candles just in case.

We are pretty flexible so if you have any requests, concerns or ideas about customising your stay please email us.
Breakfast is not included but there is a simple field kitchen with twin burner, sink / drainer and basic cooking utensils so you can make your own meals.
We can prepare you a high quality breakfast (€10 per person) or evening meal on request (€20 per person. All are half price for kids under 12. This will be freshly prepared, using our own organic, super fresh produce whenever possible.

The yurt has been around a bit but is still a lovely space, with clean and comfortable beds. You can relax down by the ´lake´ (pond?) and listen to the cow bells gently chiming.

There is one permanent double bed and two double double sofa beds.
Because the yurt has no electricity your evenings will be lit by candlelight, you will be free from the demands of ironing and heated hair styling tools; you will not fall prey to the lure of television; you will have more time to convene with nature (which happens to be directly outside your door) and chat to each other. When there is enough solar energy, we're happy to plug in the satellite and you can access our WiFi to check emails etc. We do have a limit so watching movies, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) videos and downloading is not possible.

Guest access

Composting loo, solar/gas heated shower are shared by the yurt and the caravan.
The composting loo is the most environmentally friendly way of dealing with human waste. There are certain things you need to remember when using it so there is a list of rules which you must follow. They will be clearly displayed in the loo.
There is an outdoor hot shower, powered either by the sun or by gas depending on the weather .
The views from the loo and the shower are wonderful by the way :)
There is a communal fridge close to our house. This is shared by the cabana, yurt and caravan, so you have a shelf each.

Interaction with guests

Of course, we´ll be present during your stay as the farm is where we do our daily work. We´re generally pretty busy, so you´ll probably see us on our way to feed the pigs or scythe the orchard...don´t worry though, we´ll do our best to give you your own space as much possible.
We enjoy meeting new people and are happy to share our local knowledge, so if you want to chat, feel free.

Other things to note

PLEASE NOTE!! Our access road is pretty good but not suitable for particularly low cars so if you have a low slung sports car for example, we would need to arrange for you to park in the village. It´s safe there, don´t worry.

All the positive reviews about staying in Liz and Steve's yurt prompted us to start our Asturias holiday in Pandenes. As a family of five with children aged 14, 12 and 10 we were warmly welcomed by Liz. We enjoyed her fantastic breakfasts each morning when we also had a chance to find out more about living off-grid. Steve, Liz and Grace have lots of interesting stories to share. The woods were perfect for exploring and den-building. Beds in the yurt were comfortable and we cooked simple meals in the little kitchen. Liz's evening meal was one of the food highlights of our whole holiday! Waves on Rodiles beach on a hot day and the Berry Festival in Villaviciosa were great ways to spend time as well day trips to Oviedo and Gijon. Information about the yurt is very accurate and communication with Liz was easy. Highly recommended!

Liz and Steve's yurt is a unique experience in Asturias. The yurt was very comfortable, we had a great sleep and the kitchenette provided everything we needed. Highly recommend having the breakfast and dinner they have to offer. Both were delicious. Great hosts! Hope to return soon.

The colorful decorated Yurt, located in the beautiful Asturian landscape, provided the perfect ingredients for a relaxing and unique stay in the middle of nature. Candles were provided for atmospherical lighting at night. The breakfast and dinner Liz prepared were absolutely fingerlicking good. There is also a well-equipped 'field' kitchen next to the Yurt where we prepared our breakfast and cooked a nice dinner of our own. Liz and Steve provided us with maps and explanations to explore the neighborhood by foot and by bike. Ideal location for a bike trip with great panoramic views, though the hills can be challenging. We really enjoyed staying here, a unique experience!

Beautiful and idyllic spot with lots of animals, flowers and a trampolin for kids! Liz and Steve are very welcoming people and it's an inspiriation to see what they've built. THe food Liz offers is expensive, but just delicious! Very recommendable.

Our stay in the yurt was a very special stop in our month long trip through northern Spain! It was just as great as the pictures, if not better! Liz was wonderful and the grounds were a peaceful escape from the cities we had been visiting. Most of all we enjoyed the delicious dinners Liz cooked for us both nights! It's as if she knew us! The food was fresh, plenty and very very good! We were ready for fresh ingredients after a week of the same tapas. I could go on and on but I'll stop there. We would highly recommend.

We left the UK with our daughter Grace in 2011 to come to Asturias to live, work, grow, eat, build and enjoy living a low impact high quality life in a beautiful part of the world. So far so good!
Liz is a great cook and delights in using homegrown ingredients from our organic farm. Guests, volunteers, friends and family enjoy fabulous dishes from around the world.
Steve loves doing things with his hands such as designing, creating and repairing structures and systems for the farm.
As a family we've benefited so much from our Airbnb experiences. We've met so many wonderful people from around the world and we love the challenge of making our farm a beautiful and special place to be.
