About this listing
Spacious mongolian yurt in idyllic Asturian landscape with deck, shared use of compost toilet and gas/ solar heated shower. Totally off-grid and so perfect for adventurous types who want a holiday with a low environmental impact. Read our reviews!
BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO BOOK please consider 3 factors very carefully:
*If you are a very nervous driver our access will be challenging for you. However, hundreds of people in all sorts of cars have successfully negotiated it, so you may want to take a chance.
*The yurt kitchen has limited electricity. It cannot support hairdryers, or many hours of computer use. The power is sufficient for basic lighting during the night and for charging phones/laptops during the day (via USB cable).
*If there is no sun for a few days, there will be no electricity! We have a lantern and candles just in case.
We are pretty flexible so if you have any requests, concerns or ideas about customising your stay please email us.
Breakfast is not included but there is a simple field kitchen with twin burner, sink / drainer and basic cooking utensils so you can make your own meals.
We can prepare you a high quality breakfast (€10 per person) or evening meal on request (€20 per person. All are half price for kids under 12. This will be freshly prepared, using our own organic, super fresh produce whenever possible.
The yurt has been around a bit but is still a lovely space, with clean and comfortable beds. You can relax down by the ´lake´ (pond?) and listen to the cow bells gently chiming.
There is one permanent double bed and two double double sofa beds.
Because the yurt has no electricity your evenings will be lit by candlelight, you will be free from the demands of ironing and heated hair styling tools; you will not fall prey to the lure of television; you will have more time to convene with nature (which happens to be directly outside your door) and chat to each other. When there is enough solar energy, we're happy to plug in the satellite and you can access our WiFi to check emails etc. We do have a limit so watching movies, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) videos and downloading is not possible.
Composting loo, solar/gas heated shower are shared by the yurt and the caravan.
The composting loo is the most environmentally friendly way of dealing with human waste. There are certain things you need to remember when using it so there is a list of rules which you must follow. They will be clearly displayed in the loo.
There is an outdoor hot shower, powered either by the sun or by gas depending on the weather .
The views from the loo and the shower are wonderful by the way :)
There is a communal fridge close to our house. This is shared by the cabana, yurt and caravan, so you have a shelf each.
Interaction with guests
Of course, we´ll be present during your stay as the farm is where we do our daily work. We´re generally pretty busy, so you´ll probably see us on our way to feed the pigs or scythe the orchard...don´t worry though, we´ll do our best to give you your own space as much possible.
We enjoy meeting new people and are happy to share our local knowledge, so if you want to chat, feel free.
Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE!! Our access road is pretty good but not suitable for particularly low cars so if you have a low slung sports car for example, we would need to arrange for you to park in the village. It´s safe there, don´t worry.
We allow smoking but not inside the yurt, Please ask for an ashtray if you are a smoker.
Please take off you your shoes before you enter the yurt. We suggest you bring slippers, flip-flops etc for inside use.
Pets are not allowed on the beds and sofas; they must be controlled while on the farm and you must remove any of your dog's pooh!
Please take your own rubbish away with you. There are communal recycling and general waste points all over the area.
