This small yet cozy room is a private room featuring a hand-made double bed and tall wooden shelves which serve a great storage of personal belongings. On hot days it is the coolest room in the house. It has easy access to the shared bathroom and showers.
Set in the uniquely bio-diverse mountains of the Sierra Nevada, our farm-hostel is a place where guests and workers can enjoy the beauty of one of nature's world wonders whilst also learning about environmental sustainability, organic farming and indigenous culture. Furthermore, the area's natural endowments provide endless opportunities for outdoor activities, hikes and wildlife-watching.
Originally, the property was part of an old coffee farm. During the construction of Mundo Nuevo, our goal was the preserve the original structure of the building whilst making it as functional and comfortable as possible for our guests and resident staff members. Perched on a hill, the house is surrounded by nature on every side. The property is conveniently positioned in a way that allows for easy access to our fruit trees, vegetable and flower gardens; embedded with paths that will lead you to stunning surrounding views of valleys, mountains, the sky, and the sea.
Our primary objective is to achieve self-sustainability in terms of food, water, economics and energy. We aim to preserve, protect, and live in a respectable manner that is the best interest of our land. We work to protect the unique territory of Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta from further deforestation and to preserve - and where needed recuperate - its natural ecosystems.
We aim to provide an alternative form of living for our residents and guests, by being a human settlement that provides people with reliable work and clients with tourism services whilst having an overall positive impact on the ecosystem. During your stay, you will have access to the 3 vegetable gardens, to the Awindua indigenous huts, and multiple trails along the mountain.
Interaction with guests
The economic support that hostel guests provide is crucial to helping us achieve our sustainability goals. However, the purpose of having a hostel goes beyond economic necessity; we hope that Mundo Nuevo will become a sustainability museum, a place where people from all over the world can learn, debate and contribute to a cause that is relevant to us all.

My name is Phil and have been living in Colombia since 2014. Before arriving in Colombia, I was an independent gardener in Brussels. Following a dream of a more sustainable living, I had the pleasure with the help of a great multicultural team to create and develop what is today Mundo Nuevo's sustainable permaculture farm.
Our lodge offers a great insight in permaculture principles and has freshly been refurnished, you can enjoy the spectacular surrounding nature, views and its jungle/coffee trails. We would be pleased to guide you trough our sustainable principles and have you share our meals in our homegrown veggie restaurant.
The purpose of our project is to share what we learned in the most convivial way.
Located in the upper hills of Minca the ancient coffee farm has been undergoing restoration since January 2015. Today "Mundo Nuevo" disposes of all the services to receive its guests in the most comfortable way.
In the hope to see you soon...
"Be the change you want to see."
