In this cozy cottage you can completely unwind and enjoy the beautiful views of both fields and forest. The cottage is for you who appreciate outdoor life and like the simple life close to nature. Here you live a little on nature's terms, as the electricity comes from solar cells, the water from the gutter, and the heat from the sun and the fire in the wood stove. You must therefore be a little careful with your consumption - in return you can enjoy the silence, see beautiful sunsets and wild animals such as deer and birds of prey.
The space
(!) Important to read!
The house is 100 percent "off-grid", which means that it harvests its own electricity and water and is not connected to the sewer or heating network. It's a great opportunity to learn how to conserve nature's resources in your household.
Power: It has solar panels and batteries that can supply 230v power for charging both phones and computers. However, you must be very mindful of saving electricity and only charge your devices during the daytime when there is sun.
Toilet: There is a simple compost toilet with toilet paper and hand sanitizer (see pictures). Composting toilet means there is no flush.
Shower: There is a shower cubicle inside the house. When taking a bath, heat water from the blue water tank at the back of the house in the large boiler on the stove. The hot water is poured into the black bucket in the shower along with equal parts cold water. Here you immerse the shower pump in the shower cubicle. There is water for 2-3 minutes of showering. You may only use the biodegradable soap that is already in the house or that you bring yourself.
Water: The house collects rainwater in the gutter, which is cleaned in a sand filter and collected in a blue rain barrel at the back of the house. This water is for washing dishes and showering - not for drinking. There are bottles of spring water in the house that you can buy, and you are welcome to bring your own. Only biodegradable soap may be used in the house, which is also available in both the kitchen and the bathroom. Do not flush anything in the shower or kitchen that is not biodegradable (i.e. no dyes, plastics or artificial chemistry) as it pollutes. Pay special attention to saving water, as the house can only collect water when it rains. However, there are spare water jugs for washing dishes and bathing at the back of the house.
Heating: There is a small wood-burning stove in the house and firewood available, including an axe and hand saw if you want to cut/chop your own firewood. (However, this is at your own risk!).. However, the house is sunny and is easily heated by the solar heat, and it is insulated with 100mm wood fiber insulation, so it keeps the heat well in the summer months.
Food: There is a small stock of basic food and spring water in the house's colonial room, which you can pay for.
Other practical information:
Refrigerator: There is a small bar refrigerator where there is room for some food and drinks. However, it has no freezer.
Linen: You must bring your own linen, i.e. covers for duvets and pillows as well as a sheet. The mattress is 140x200. Should you forget to bring it, there is backup bedding that you can rent for DKK 200. However, this is only in case of emergency. There are two duvets and four pillows.
Stove: There is a small combined gas stove and oven. When you turn it on, it is with a match or lighter (found in the house). You have to hold the gas a little bit after ignition before the fire "takes hold".
Outdoor kitchen: There is a simple outdoor kitchen with a fire pit as well as pots and pans. It is important that you only make a fire in the fire pit and only make a small fire. However, if the weather is very dry and especially windy, it is not allowed to light a fire in the fire pit. There are firelighters and lighters/matches in the house.
Wood-burning stove: When lighting up, it is important to preheat the wood-burning stove with one or two firelighters so that the outlet pipe on the back is warm. In strong windy weather, however, it can be difficult to light up, as the smoke can then come out of the wood-burning stove - so keep an eye on the weather. In case of smoke in the house, ventilate by opening the roof window with a long stick that is inside the house. Here it is very important that you do not press the stick against the glass of the window (!!), but against the wooden frame of the window.
Access to the loft: There is a ladder up to the loft (bedroom), which you can lift down from the wall and hang on two hinges on the loft (see pictures). It is very important that the ladder is in these so that the ladder does not slip when walking on it.
Cleaning: Please leave the cottage in the same condition as you took it over. That is, just sweep the floor, empty the trash can, wash up and put things back in their places.
Waste: Bags from the house can be put in the trash can behind the house. Returnable bottles can be placed in the gray bucket at the back of the house.
Guest access
You can park on the property in front of the house.
You can also take the light rail to Kolind from Aarhus and walk/cycle to the house along a scenic route (via the town of Ebdrup) or the faster one by road (about 30-45 min on foot).
There are two steps up a small staircase into the house.
Key: There is a key box at the house with a code, which you will be informed of when you arrive.
