The space

The private entrance and full floor gives the space the feel of an apartment. You'll also have access to the full kitchen on the main floor but this is a shared space. Easy access to the highway (315) makes for a short trip anywhere in Columbus. You'll also be within walking distance to a bus stop, a Kroger and a 2 mile walk to the OSU football stadium and Schottenstein center. This is a residential area; there's ample, free street parking

Guest access

The space has its own entrance through the back of the house, which leads you through the garage to your floor. You will have this lower floor to yourself, which includes a bathroom and the laundry room. You'll have full access to the kitchen on the main floor as well, but this is a shared space. Feel free to use the backyard/grill as well.

Interaction with guests

I'm a pretty hands-off host - I work during the week and am usually out during the weekend. That being said, I'll do what I can to make your stay in Columbus great. If you need anything, let me know in advance and I'll make sure to accommodate.

Other things to note

If your stay is longer than a week I may need to use the laundry room - I'll make sure to get permission before.

This place is well beyond the value listed. Great area, great living space. Honestly, you can't get much better than this

This isn't a "studio" it's a private room in the basement, and the neighborhood is kind of sketchy.

Response from Austin:
Thanks for your feedback. I suggest you take the time to read the description of a place before you book it. I feel this description is pretty accurate: "You will have this lower floor to yourself, which includes a bathroom and the laundry room. You'll have full access to the kitchen on the main floor as well, but this is a shared space." We've never had any issues with crime in the neighborhood - it's mostly families and off-campus student housing in the area.

Austin's place was very much as described. It was easy to check in and easy to stay in communication with Austin. His place was an easy commute to restaurants and the stadium where we went to Rock On The Range Music Festival. It was very clean however the bed is a bit small for a couple to share. He offered us a portion of his refrigerator to keep our snacks and beverages and offered access to the washer and dryer although we didn't utilize the service. He has two awesome cats who were very willing to greet us upon our arrival. A door connected our space to his kitchen and the cats were there waiting when we opened the door to use the refrigerator. One even slept by my side for a bit while I tried to take a nap. They were great! There were really only two issues that we encountered. The first being that when we arrived after our long commute we intended on relaxing and taking a nap before going out to grab a late night dinner. When Austin arrived home from work he started mowing his lawn. It was rather loud and later in the evening. Although we had a private entrance it was shared with an entrance way to the garage. The garage door had been left open for most of the early evening after Austin mowed the lawn. Unfamiliar with the area and safety it was a little alarming knowing that there was no lock on our door and the garage door was left open with access to where we were staying. He did close the garage shortly before we went out for the night. The second issue was that when it rained all three nights of our stay, our room flooded with some water all three nights. From the entrance door of the basement studio to our bed the carpet was pretty drenched. More so on the first night than the other two. Luckily none of our stuff was located on the floor near the area. Austin was very quick to get the carpet dried on the first night and leave a fan on to further dry the carpet. The next two nights we had to keep the fan on to make sure the carpet stayed dried. He was also very understanding and concerned, he even refunded us for a night. All and all it was nothing too bad to ruin our good time and trip although initially that evening discovering this at 1am after being at a festival all day and night, I was rather upset. The water issue did have me concerned about breathing mildew and potential mold. There was a huge three day festival in the area so all the hotels were booked or at astronomical prices. We would have opted to just move into a hotel for the remainder of the trip but at such short notice that wasn't an option. Seeing as how the rain caused slight flooding...

Read the manual before your stay (it is not printed out nor sent to you) as there are some very important things you will need to know that were not mentioned. The keys provided are only for one lock, and unfortunately we found that out the hard way. Otherwise it was tidy and had everything we needed.
