Perfect writer's retreat or family getaway, we've covered every detail so you can unplug and relax at Edinburgh Cottage at Loch Lure. A beautiful 1960's cottage with 3 BR and 2 baths, plus open kitchen/ dining/ living room with cathedral ceiling and gas fireplace. The house also boasts a sunroom with large windows to enjoy both forest and lake views.

Conveniently located near Chimney Rock and Asheville, with a sandy beach/ waterpark, outdoor activities, spas, restaurants, golf, & more nearby.

The space

Furnished and decorated with love, Edinburgh Cottage is sure to be your favorite cozy little home away from home. There are games to play, puzzles to do, novels to read, and even writer's guides to inspire your creativity and help you overcome writer's block.

Please note we do NOT currently have internet, cable TV, or a landline phone. We do have a TV, DVDs, and bluray player though ...just in case you want to veg out. ;-) This is a truly tranquil getaway.

We also have a charcoal grill now! (Charcoal not provided)

It has a propane fireplace to keep you feeling cozy in the winter (though the HVAC works just fine!) and the lake views from the sunroom will be a pleasure all year round-- even in the summer, when the trees are full, the sun glinting off the lake makes sunsets spectacular.

On a practical note, the house boasts updated plumbing, HVAC, a security system, washer/dryer, crawl space, and a large latticed storage area down below to keep your canoes, kayaks, bicycles, and other outdoor equipment contained.

Its 4-season landscaping will keep you happy even when the lilies, roses, gladiolas, rhododendrons, and other flowers are not in bloom. The stone paths add a picturesque touch and offer a lovely path between the home, storage shed, stone bench, side porch (with spiral staircase), and wooden double swing.

I would like to give my review in the form of pros and cons. The cons - No service/Wifi: Not entirely a con, It is in the listing that there will be no wifi. This wasn't hidden from us at all and you are up quite far in the mountains, which natural means no service for most phones. Only listing this so that incase someone misses it in the listing they can see it here. - Winding road: Again, not a con in that the hosts did anything wrong, the house just happens to be up a long mountain road so if you are uncomfortable or not used to driving this kind of road make sure to come during daylight and drive slowly. Th returns are sharp but once you get used to it it can be quite relaxing to drive up and down the mountain. Now for the fun part Pros -Well stocked: When I say well stocked I do not mean they had toilet paper. There was pots, pans, utensils, spatulas, funnels, measuring cups, can openers, cups, plates, mugs, plastic plates and cutlery for children, a sippy cup, a coffee maker with coffee and cream and sugar, even a can of formula. And that was just in the kitchen (although I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting things. There was also a pack and play ready incase we needed it. In the bathrooms there was body soap, a hair dryer, a comb, and hair spray. They provided towels, toys, books and DVD's. Oh my goodness the DVD's. There were two cases for DVDs. One of them were regular movies and the other case had children's movies and workout tapes. -Ease of contact: Every time I tried to contact the hosts before, during, or after the trip they were quick to respond and very friendly. At one point they contacted me while I was at the house because I listed I was bringing my children and they wanted to know if I needed a highchair. I didn't but the offer was very thoughtful. -Helpfulness: As I stated, the hosts were available to answer any questions I had but they also left a binder with information for things to do while we were in town. Where to eat, activities to do, maps and trail guides, directions to close by towns. In addition to that, and being so well stocked they were also thoughtful enough to put push lights in the children room next to the beds. They thought of everything. -Local area: Its about a 20 minute drive down the mountain but a straight shot to Lake Lure and then Chimney Rock Village. During our stay we played in the river in Chimney Rock and also hiked up the mountain. A little further into Bat Cave NC and theres another hidden trail we found and then its a straight shot to Asheville as well. The shops down in Chimney Rock village are great, and very kid friendly. -Privacy: The hosts were reachable but...

Hi and welcome!

I'm David and I'm originally from Edinburgh, Scotland. I met my wife when she was there for graduate school. We moved to America, got married, and now have the best, cutest, and smartest son in the whole world (not that we're biased ;-)). We moved to the Asheville, NC area a few years ago and love it here in the mountains.

Whenever we go back home to Edinburgh, we always get a flat with a kitchen and living room so we can save money, have more space, and stay longer. Because of that, we know what amenities are most useful in a vacation rental. We think we've covered everything you'll need for a comfortable holiday in our home away from home and hope it becomes your favorite home away from home.

As for work, I'm a web developer and my wife is an author and business consultant. We work from home, so while our schedule isn't 100% flexible (having a baby changes that), we're readily available if you need us during your stay.  We look forward to making you welcome in our cozy little "Edinburgh Cottage at Loch Lure."
