Tophouse and the Mountain View Cottages are situated on a hill 7 Km's from the alpine village of Saint Arnaud.
The Mountain View Cottages sit apart from Tophouse Historical Inn which was built in 1887 and steeped in history. A must look. The cottages face the Saint Arnaud Ranges and afford beautiful and peaceful views.

The Historical Cob Inn also has a cafe which offers Devonshire teas open most weekends

We love welcoming people from all over to enjoy this unique experience with us

The space

Each cottage is self contained with a kitchen ,dining table and sofa all in one room which is cosy for 1-4 people .The bedrooms are divided by a hall with a bathroom ,separate toilet in between .There are 2 bedrooms ,a Queen/double bed in one room and a twin in the other. Each cottage looks a different way which gives each cottage privacy from each other but all have a wonderful view of the mountains. They are very warm and insulated and all have heaters and electric blankets in each. One cottage has a bunk in the twin room which is suitable for families with 3 children (or 3 adults with a squeeze.)

Guest access

Travellers are free to walk around our property ,we own 5 hectares, we have chooks that wander around and 2 geese over in the fenced off chook house and pond . Come and ask us and we will tell you of a few good walks near us worth doing. You can drive your car right up and park in front of the cottage you are staying in parking is not a problem. Miles and I live in Tophouse the Historical Cob Inn , the cottages are situated just behind the Inn ,you are welcome to come and have a look around and spend a bit of time in our dining room and learn about the old days of Tophouse ,it has a bit of a coloured history! We have a Cafe in the dining room most weekends in the winter and summer.

Interaction with guests

We leave guests alone in the cottages but they are welcome to visit us at theTophouse Inn

Our chalet was clean and nicely appointed. Would be excellent for a group traveling together as it is a two bedroom (three beds) cabin with a kitchenette and living area. You can't beat the view of the surrounding mountains and cattle in the front pasture!

The cottages are a great size for a small group! The kitchen is like your grandmas but well stocked. Bed was very comfy. Will certainly stay again if I'm in the area!

Tophouse has a spectacular setting. We were in cabin 4 and it had the best view from the living area. It was wonderful to watch the new calves in the adjacent field and the mountain backdrop while eating breakfast or sitting on the deck with a pre-dinner drink. The kitchen was well equipped although the decor was dated but in good condition. It was sparkling clean. The same could be said for the bathroom. A very comfortable bed with flannel sheets, which made it very cosy. The space heaters provided were very efficient. This is the ideal location for exploring Nelson Lakes National park. We had a great stay and would return.

Loved the chance to get away and rest. Helen "pre-heated" the cottage which was great. Recommend staying if you want to get away and unplug.

I am married to Miles we have recently bought Tophouse Historical Inn and the 4 Mountainview Cottages , falling in love with the area after living in Nelson and visiting this area on 4WD trips .We belong to a 4WD club. I have retired from a life time of Nursing and this is a life style change for both of us .Miles is a Builder and has sold his business and we are passionate in welcoming visitors to share the enjoyment of this old Historical Cob Inn and the amazing views of the mountains and encourage people to venture out and explore the beautiful Nelson lakes. Our passion is 4WDing while Miles loves the hard stuff I enjoy seeing new places. We both enjoy gardening , cooking and restoring old places tramping & biking. We love what we have so far experienced in hospitality in having the Café open for Devonshire Teas and Coffee in the garden or by the massive old fireplace and with guests staying in Tophouse or in the 4 cottages .We are both ex divers with lots of dives under our belt having explored many Islands in the Pacific but that's another story...
