Response from Leslie:
I've never replied to a review in the past but this one gives negative impressions that are, at the least, unfair and in some cases wrong. The largest of these is that "the room is built inside their garage." While the structure once was a one-car garage, it has been decades since it served that purpose. It was converted into a small dance studio over 35 years ago with hard wood floors, heat and insulation.
The house was built in 1948 and the owners lived in the garage space while constructing the rest of the home, attached by a covered breezeway. They installed a bathroom for their use. When it was converted to a dance studio, everything was upgraded. The dance studio quickly outgrew the space and it became an office until last summer when it underwent a complete renovation. It became the bedroom (yes, it is small as can be seen in the pictures on our site) that it currently is so that we could accommodate our growing number of grandchildren. The double bed is against the wall, which can also be seen in our pictures. The area through which you enter is currently a storage space for us, which also has hardwood floors, heat and insulation. No one, family or AirBnBrs, has ever mentioned any kind of "garage smells."
To keep our guests from having to stare at our uninteresting collection of stuff, we hung a few yards of different types of cloth material, some of which display beach themed pictures. None of them are bed sheets.
Betty and Todd arrived late, 10pm after saying they were coming at 9pm and not contacting us differently, but Tom met them and tried to explain a few quick things about the room. Betty asked if they could stay the next night, if they needed to, and were told that Tom thought so but he would check with Leslie to be sure. They left before 8am the next morning without any mention of any problems or confirming, yes or no, about the possible second night.
As for amenities, the room has a private entrance, microwave, a coffee/tea maker, a skylight, wifi, an air conditioner, an en-suite bathroom with a full tub with whirlpool and shower. The shower is easiest used for those 5'9" or shorter, another fact mentioned on our site. We also have a private association beach on Long Island Sound 150 steps away and beach chairs and towels available for use. All of this is mentioned on our site and nothing else. No one is trying to fool anyone. The "barest of amenities" does not apply just because you don't use what is provided.
If you are still reading this, I apologize for the length but I felt strongly that the review gave an extremely negative impression of our room. Certainly some will not appreciate it as so many others have but this was just unfair.
