Our historic home began as a stables in the 1870s. The conversion, by award-winning sustainable architects Harrison & White, retains its heritage character & original features.
The bedroom has a queen bed, optional single bed, en-suite bathroom & laundry. The living room & kitchen are equipped for your cooking needs. Enjoy a coffee in our gorgeous courtyard garden.
In the middle of laidback North Melbourne, it's a short walk to Queen Vic Markets & the city, or the tram's "on our doorstep"!

The space

You'll have the entire light-filled top floor for your stay:

- living room and kitchen, which historically was the hay loft, with original hay-bale doors, baltic pine floor, vaulted ceilings and exposed brick. The kitchen with gas cooktop has the provisions you'll need for a short stay.

- bedroom with comfy queen bed plus optional pull-out single bed, vaulted ceilings and plenty of cupboard space. Within the bedroom is the architect-designed plywood addition, housing an en-suite bathroom with shower, recycled ironbark floor and unique LED backlit walls, and a separate laundry with washing machine and sink.

- these spaces are joined by a gangway hallway which wraps around our lovely, tranquil courtyard, with recycled timber planter boxes built by us, filled with indigenous and native plants as well as herbs and edibles. You're welcome to snip some herbs for your cooking, and of course to enjoy a coffee or meal out there.

You will enter our home from the original horse stables downstairs, then once you come in to the front entry hall, you can head straight upstairs. Two rooms downstairs are locked, but no one will be staying in them so you are ensured full privacy for your stay. There is however a library/reading area outside of these rooms that is yours to kick back in and enjoy our books!

Guest access

Our concierge will meet you to show you in to our home.

We are only 20 minutes from Melbourne Airport in good traffic, and if you only have backpacks or carry-on, you might want to take the Skybus to Southern Cross station for an easy 15 minute walk to our home.

We have a garage that can be used for off-street parking (for a small to medium size car only - biggest it can fit is a regular station wagon).

Additionally, our beautiful Melbourne-made Papillionaire his & hers bikes are yours to use responsibly for your stay (though please note you will be liable for any damages/theft. Conditions provided upon booking).

Interaction with guests

Although we live in Europe and therefore won't be on-hand personally, there will be our concierge who will check you in and be available for anything you need through your stay. You can of course contact us directly via mobile or email, too.

Other things to note

The central hallway that connects the spaces in our home has stairs, so it is not the safest place for children, nor recommended for those with low mobility.

The Hayloft was such a great place to stay: the perfect location for everything we wanted to do in Melbourne, with local eateries and a tram stop on the corner to take you wherever you need to go. It really felt like a home away from home, with all the touches you appreciate but wouldn't think to mention. Nick and Juliet provided lots of useful information before we arrived and Cedric was on hand for any questions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying there - so long as you don't want to b there when we go back :-)

Nick and Juliet's house is as interesting as it looks in the pictures. It is in a great location with the tram and lots of great places to eat on the doorstep (literally!). We appreciated Nick and Juliet's attention to detail. Their communication prior to our arrival was excellent. Thank you! We had a fantastic time. Kim

Great little place. Really close to a good number of eating and drinking spots, a really short walk to the Melbourne tram and access to the house bikes made getting out and about very easy. The house is really nice. The two of us found it really comfortable and really well appointed. You would pay more for a city hotel room and not have the enjoyment staying in the inner suburbs offer.

The Hay Loft fully met our expectations. It was a fun place to stay, and so conveniently located for easy walks into the city.

Such an amazing space will definitely be back again soon! A renovated warehouse with a traditional feel. The communication and experience was 10/10.
