Morecambe is a seaside town in Lancashire, on England’s northwest coast. Previously made of three fishing villages Bare, Poulton and Torrisholme until the 19th Century when they joined together to form Morecambe. By around 1850 Morecambe had a railway built, connecting west yorkshire to the growing town. People would come from Skipton, Keighley and Bradford to enjoy the budding seaside resort and by the mid 20th century Morecambe was thriving. It became home to the Miss Great Britain beauty contest in 1956 for 33 years and became a popular spot for holidaymakers across the UK.
The Bay is a large estuary just to the south of the Lake District National Park. It is the largest expanse of intertidal mudflats and sand in the United Kingdom. The view from Morecambe is magnificent, offering a glimpse of the lakes, barrow, walney island. The Bay is a great place for outdoor activities including sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, horseriding, and kitesurfing. With so much for children and adults to discover, Morecambe Bay is a perfect place to relax, explore and enjoy.
