My travel partner and I are stupefied that this rental has received 5-star ratings. Given the price of $200.00 a night, I certainly did not expect to stay in a Trailer Home with virtually no insulation from the hot weather in Truth or Consequences. None of the bedrooms had insulated blackout curtains on the windows. The largest bedroom faces the rising sun and hence woke me up at dawn and heated up the room rapidly. The sun reflects on the river and makes viewing of the lake on the porch in the morning blinding and quickly hot. There is lighting to drive into the parking area but none to find the key and unlock the back door (no other option given for accessing the trailer house). Parents should note that the listing states that the 'house' is child-friendly but not child proof. An unlocked gate going 3 steps down to the river, and, a flimsy chicken-wire fence about 18 inches high, separate the porch from the unsafe areas before the river's edge. Parents of children who can walk and/or run should be told to stay in the car upon arrival while the parents take a look at these problems and decide how they can protect their kids from the pitfalls. If renters arrive after dark they must have a good flashlight in order to find and open the lock box and the back door. The house was stifling hot when we arrived at 5:30 and it took hours for the whole trailer to cool down. The lack of wall and window insulation increases the heat that accumulates in the trailer on hot days. The owner's put a sign next to the central AC that suggests 82 degrees is an adequate level of cooling -- ridiculous. You have to open the AC program control lid to figure out how to temporarily override the 84 degree program. The living room and largest bedroom do not benefit from the central AC and are difficult to cool down with the old and inadequate wall AC at the rear of the bedroom. There is a small electric fan next to the dining table (above the couch) that does not have a grated covering so the fan blades are exposed -- another danger for children if parents aren't aware of that problem. The house is a 45 minute walk to the edge of the city center where shopping, thermal baths and restaurants are located. Over-priced and disappointing in many many ways.

This is an enjoyable house, nicely decorated with the comforts of home. If you have a kayak, tube, or canoe bring it along since as you may enter the river directly from the yard. Suitable for cooking in the kitchen or grilling on the patio while playing board games or relaxing with a book. Access to Elephant Butte lake within a short distance drive.
