Stylish Shepherds Cabin in the heart of the Cotswolds. Free-standing full sized bath, king size bed, two seater sofa and great views. This is as good as camping in the woods gets, no electricity but hot water, plenty of candles and gas to cook on.

The space

This romantic getaway has all you need for a weekend away or a short break. Less than 2 hours from London and an hour from Bristol the Shepherds Cabin is in the heart of the Cotswolds. At the head of the Slad valley, made famous by Laurie Lee's books, especially Cider with Rosie, this idyllic part of the world has changed little since his time. The walk to the Woolpack pub takes an hour and a half and takes you through an unspoilt valley with no houses or humans for the first hour. Or you can drive in 7 minutes. The cabin has hot and cold running water, NO ELECTRICITY, but plenty of candles and torches.

Guest access

Glorious Cotswold countryside.
Peace and quiet.
Plenty of space to park and walk down to the Shepherds Cabin we will show you around and leave you to it.
If you need it there is full 4G phone reception but why not just leave it in the car.

Interaction with guests

We live on the farm but across a field and yard from the cabin. The cabin is very private and nestled in a thicket of ash trees, looking over green fields and trees. There are very friendly horses and sheep around. We will be available throughout your stay should you need anything but we will leave you to your own devices unless you needs us.

2 Friday's a month we run a rural takeaway delivery service and it is really popular in the local area. If you are staying on one of our delivery nights you could have a feast delivered to the cabin (URL HIDDEN)

Other things to note

The cabin does not have electricity. But it has everything you need

Wonderful Shepherds Cabin tucked away in a secluded field with lovely views over the valley. Really enjoyed our stay and such a treat to get back to basics!! Excellent hide-away if you are looking for a very nature-heavy, quaint holiday! Torches are provided by the brilliant hosts but would recommend bringing a head-torch if you are going to get up in the night! Thanks again, brilliant weekend!

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend away in the cabin! It's everything you need for a quiet weekend away from it all, and the bath is an absolute treat! We can't wait to visit again soon.

This is a really lovely cabin with such a beautiful view and some very friendly sheep who would often come and sit with us outside. As there is no electricity in the cabin we were expecting lots of candles (as per the description) but we ended up needing to buy our own as there were only 2 or 3 (mostly burnt out) candles left, which was a bit disappointing. We stayed here for 3 nights so definitely needed more than that. The cabin has a beautiful open roll top bath, but it should be noted that the hot water comes out quite slowly. The toilet wasn't very pleasant, and on our last day it seemed to overflow.. so maybe it hadn't been emptied after the previous guests.. All in all we did really enjoy our stay in this gorgeous secluded cabin. It was a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life!

Response from Sarah:
I am glad you enjoyed your time in the cabin. That is, however, rather misleading about the candles. As you will remember, I explained when you arrived that we were running low and that I would be getting more the following day and you sent me a text message saying "Don't worry about the candles, we found some in the shop". As for the loo, it is cleaned out for every visit and it did not overflow, you blocked it !

This is the perfect location to get into the countryside and relax. We enjoyed two mornings of absolute silence and not another person in sight. The hut itself refreshingly simple with a very comfortable bed and the bath is an excellent touch. The toilet is perfectly adequate just outside the door of the hut. The icing on the cake was the two sheep - endlessly entertaining, they are very interested and excited to interact with people; they seem to think they are two dogs! Great value for money and thoroughly recommended.

We would definitely recommend a stay in this cabin, it's in a beatiful remote setting amongst the the trees with an amazing view and two friendly sheep. The Camp Kitchen also serves up an amazing menu every other Friday if you happen to be there!

We absolutely loved the cabin, the sheep and the area! I would strongly recommend anyone aiming to head to The Woolpack Inn to walk via the back roads. We got dreadfully lost on the woodland walk suggested and sadly missed our dinner reservation. The walk home on the road was dead simple and only took an hour. Thanks!

I grew up in the Cotswolds and then spent a few years roaming around. I have now settled back where I came from with my husband and two small children, as well as an ever growing selection of plants and animals.
