This mobile safari camp is at the eastern border of Udawalawe National Park, allowing guests to experience safari in style and comfort. You are guaranteed an elephant sighting on every single safari drive. There are other spectacular animals such as the sambar deer, jackal, and toque macaque. The camp itself is furnished with seal-able tents with attached partitioned toilets. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). Safaris could be booked separately.
The Big Game tented safari campsite is set among a flat and spacious bush forest overlooking a man-made reservoir on the eastern boundary of the Udawalawe National Park. Tents are spaciously set up to ensure a great setting and maximum enjoyment of the breath-taking sunset in the bush. It consists of a desk, seating area, mosquito net with an attached bathroom along with a shower. We also provide wake-up services.
There is ample space to relax and unwind and spend the late morning hours or afternoons gazing up at the open sky lying in a hammock.
The camp property has a span of 20 acre land and it is accessible with a naturalist present. Other than the kitchen and the dedicated tent areas at the campsite the guests have access to the property grounds as per the rules and regulations mentioned at the camping brief by the manager.
Interaction with guests
Though I am not their personally all the time, my Camp Manager and the team will be at your service all the time. You can discuss your days plan and safari requirements with them.
Other things to note
We offer the accommodation as Tent with Breakfast and Dinner basis. As there are no other restaurants close by, we think it's the most practical option. Dinner will be a BBQ set menu. We do not have a la-carte option where you could order dishes from the menu. For a unique camping experience we light up the camp along with a bonfire.
An early morning drive to the park entrance or an evening drive back to the campsite can be easily made in to a mini safari, based on the client's interest for an extra cost.
Though the tents are set up far away from local villages, bear in mind that this area is very quiet, so the distant sound of a radio or temple chant may sometimes carry to the campsite. These occurrences are rare but we would like to keep our customers informed in case such situations arise.
