Our place is close to art, culture, good food and wine, and great views. You’ll love it because of the people, the ambiance, the outdoor space, the neighbourhood, and the light. Everything you need to cook in, or nice restaurants to dine-out. Our place is good for couples and friends - four maximum and for a minimum of four days at all times, including weekends.

The space

Our casa is built into the medieval walls of Irsina, high up above the wheat fields, olive groves and vineyards of this little known region of Basilicata. The narrow streets of the old town are to the front of the house and there are amazing views of the countryside and distant towns from the balconies at the back.

Guest access

You have the whole place - kitchen for cooking banquets, laundry room for those little essential jobs, two big, light-filled double bedrooms each with their own shower-room off. And the sitting room with its wonderful balcony and real fireplace. There is a roof-top terrace with day-long sunshine and for barbecues in the evenings. A balcony for lazy breakfasts lit by the rising sun. The bakery and little grocery shop next door, butcher two minutes away, a host of restaurants, bars and cafes less than five minutes walk.

Interaction with guests

We live nearby and so we are on hand to meet and greet you, show you around and give you information on things to do, places to go and anything else you need to know. There is a folder in the kitchen with all kinds of useful information and if you contact us in advance we can help book things like cookery, language and art courses, horse riding, lunch by a poolside etc and even spend some time helping to pick olives or harvest grapes.

Other things to note

Summers tend to be long and can be very warm but being high-up we usually get a cooling breeze in the afternoons. Winters are cool with some rain and even snow some years. Weather in the spring, like the autumn, can be mixed but the countryside is always beautiful, full of flowers and fruits.

We cannot recommend this place highly enough. So much thought and care gone into all of the details. The facilities were superb, the views stupendous and the welcome warm and genuine. The accommodation is a lot more spacious than the photographs suggest and it is very easy to "bed in" here and treat it as a home from home. The beds were very comfortable and the place was spotless. Irsina is charming with lovely restaurants. the wine and fresh produce are amazing value and there is plenty to see in the area. Ann and jan were fabulous and knowledgable hosts who have a very welcoming and reliable approach. We would no hesitation in returning here in the future.

We first came to Irsina as a holiday destination but quickly realised that it could be our home. So despite years living in big cities and loving it, we now live in this little town, enjoying the change of pace but relishing the new experience of living in a different part of the world. And we love sharing it with guests. The value of fast internet should not of course be underestimated!
