"The Barndo" at The Baker Homestead just off the South Holston Lake (via Sportsman's Marina- a full service marina complete with Restaurant and Bar), 5 mins from the Virginia Creeper Trail, 10 mins from The Barter Theatre in Abingdon, 15 mins to Bristol Caverns, 20 mins to arguably the best fly fishing east of the Mississippi and the Appalachian Trail, art and culture, and numerous parks- AND 25 mins from Bristol Motor Speedway! You’ll love us because we are a working Grade A Dairy Goat Farm.

The space

We uniquely centered amongst the best the southern Appalachians have to offer. Fishing, biking at the Creeper Trail and other venues, hiking, boating, the arts, Bristol Motor Speedway, and all within a few minutes drive. The Cottage is a small two-story dwelling with a Queen-sized bed upstairs in the bedroom (obviously sleeps 2) with private bathroom (nice tiled shower stall) and living area downstairs, outfitted with a daybed nook under the stairs (sleeps one), pullout full-sized futon/sleeper (sleeps 2), propane stove/range and small fridge with ice-maker in the kitchen area. It has all the essentials- coffee maker, tea, pots and pans, etc.- needed to feed up to five guests. Nice deck off the french doors looking out over sheep, goats, and horses in adjoining pastures. Relaxation at its finest, nestled in an heirloom tree orchard containing a variety of Apple, Peach, Pear and Cherry trees, along with Currants, June, Black, Blue, and Raspberries- a beautiful setting.

Guest access

Please enjoy the cottage and the surroundings as animals are in close proximity to the back deck, but any and all gated paddocks are off limits. Please do not feed the animals anything other than grass! Animal health on a Grade A Dairy is paramount, so please be respectful of the restrictions. Thank you!

Interaction with guests

We will be happy to welcome you in and answer any and all questions you may have during your stay. Our farmhouse is next door, but please be aware that as a working farm with small children, we are early to bed, and early to rise!

Other things to note

Animal lovers paradise with Goats galore, sheep, horses, cows, rabbits, chickens, dogs, cats, coyotes (you will hear them singing in the hills at night, but no worries, the Great Pyrenees keep them at bay- GREAT guardians!). Cell service is Verizon only it seems. Not sure about Sprint but AT&T definitely doesn't work here. Please be advised, Wifi works and does fine but isn't screaming speed. The cottage is on the left as you come up the drive across from the farmhouse. Parking is through the gate just in front of the Barndo.

Fantastic Airbnb with a great host. This place has the most comfortable bed of basically all hotels and Airbnbs I've ever stayed in. Perfect location for exploring abingdon, the va creeper trail and Greyson highland/mount Rodgers. Get some goat cheese and eggs!!

Great little place in a beautiful farm setting. Plenty to do in the area or just enjoy the country views from the porch overlooking the rolling hills and pastures with sheep and goats. The host sells eggs and goat cheese made on their farm which is outstanding. The place is well appointed and with attention to detail. Lovely little getaway.

Great place to "get away from it all." The Barndo was quaint, spotless, and the farm setting was icing on the cake. The Bakers were exceptionally hospitable and we look forward to our next stay!

The Barndo was a perfect place to stay. We ride the Creeper Trail on Saturday and stayed overnight. The little house was very cute and just exactly what we needed.

The Barndo was a great place to stay. Quiet, quaint, peaceful, and a very nice family. We and our two boys (6/8) loved staying here!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Barndo. Our 3 boys really enjoyed seeing the farm animals and playing outside. The VA Creeper Trail was also a great day! The Barndo was very clean, so unique, and nicely decorated. We had everything we needed! Blake was a wonderful host too. We will definitely be recommending the Barndo to friends!

Wonderful and exactly as described! The space was comfortable and well laid out. It was such a treat having morning coffee on the porch overlooking the farm and seeing the animals. We rented bikes and did the Virginia creeper trail (highly recommended) and there were some great restaurants and shops in town to see.
