A perfect little place for a short stay when visiting for a wedding. Rita was a lovely host, very welcoming and helpful with local information. We would certainly come and stay again if in the area again.

We stayed at Ritas place for 10 nights and had picked it due to its closeness to Callander and as it had excellent reviews. Unfortunately our review wont be excellent. Little niggles would be: very dusty shelves in the single room which had to be cleaned before we could use them, the wifi signal is very weak outside of the lounge. My laptop picked up the tiniest of signals in a bedroom but the tablets and mobiles were unusable. Medium niggles would be: the sky box wouldnt get a signal from the dish if it was raining. All you got was a message saying no signal received, it rained for quite a few days, luckily we took our X box. The A84 main road is practically right on the doorstep, we had no idea it would be so close. The screaming motorbikes kept our son awake for the first 3 nights until he got used to it - or because he was so tired! Major niggles are the garden! The description said a fully enclosed garden which was not the case. In the corner of the garden through some branches of a giant tree there was an old rusty uncloseable gate lying fully open which our dog decided to walk through. We thought he was sniffing around the tree or the boundary fencing but having not seen or heard from him for 10 minutes we investigated and to our horror discovered the gate and the reality that our dog had vanished! The gate leads out onto a flood plain and straight away you encounter a 6 foot ditch filled with mud, sludge, water, nettles, weeds, peat, everything. I had no choice but to jump in and start walking in the hope of finding our dog. Luckily after an hour we found him not too far from the garden whimpering, shivering, cold and wet. I, on the other hand, had staggered way past him and was now covered in stings and my clothes ruined. My Nike Air 360's only 6 months old and £120 were straight in the bin. We contacted Rita and to her credit had someone installing new fencing over the gate immediately, but she also admitted she had no idea the gate was there. Which begs the question: How can you describe your property as having a fully enclosed garden when you havent walked the boundary? The fear we felt when our dog was missing and on one side you have the A84 and the other side is a flood plain will take a long time to subside. The area around Callander is lovely, we may visit again one day but we wont be staying at Ritas Place again.

Response from Rita:
I am sorry to read that you were not happy in our Lodge but feel that your review does not clearly state the facts as they were. Firstly as to the dust on the shelves in the single room, my husband and myself cleaned that room ourselves on the morning of your arrival as our cleaners were busy at our other property and you were arriving early there are no SHELVES (plural) there is one small shelf (single) above the hanging area for clothes which had been wiped as had all other surfaces. If your son found this room so unsatisfactory why did you not say something to us when we spoke in person on at least three separate occasions at the property. After all there was another bedroom (twin room) to the rear of the property that he could have used. Secondly WiFi I have had no issues using my ipad or iPhone in the main bedroom at the property nor has any other guest of whom there have been many found it a problem We use BT infinity WiFi and the only was I can see you would have issues is if too many devices were trying to use it at the one time. At the end of the day it is a rural area not a big city where there are much stronger signals I could see the point if you were not able to get online at all but as you clearly state you got a signal in the lounge area. As to the satellite (no signal) again we have had no issues with that from our own use or other guests I would suggest that perhaps when you were disconnecting your XBOX you were not changing back the source hence the no signal message. The garden to my own eyes is fully enclosed the gate that you speak of was not in an area that was in any way easily accessible to humans it has a very large tree which is protected and is not allowed to be cut down and nor should it be there are brambles and undergrowth which makes it inaccessible. The ground on the other side of the fence has nothing to do with me and I have therefore no right to "walk the boundary" as you state. I have spoken at length to the estate workers who have worked that land for many years and they knew nothing about the gate either. I was closed off and fenced all the way across within 2 hours of it coming to our attention. I am so pleased that your dog seems to have a new surge of agility when you first came to the Lodge and I made you aware of our pet policy that they could not be left unattended you told me that you dog was very old (12 years) could not walk very far due to a stroke and that you were therefore worried about taking it out with you on your journeys I of course had sympathy with that being pet owners ourselves and told you I would waive that condition. For the poor animal to have managed to do as you state and turn into Houdini by wandering all that distance I can only assume it had a new lease of life and for that I am very pleased. The flood plain is far from being six foot deep otherwise you would not have been able to walk in it. It is 2-3 foot at most and again is not on our property and therefore has nothing to do with us. Your trainers, never at any occasion when I spoke with you at length did you advise that you had ruined any footwear, if you had and had shown them to me I would of course have had them replaced. I did in fact check the bins but they had been emptied by the time I received your review so cannot verify that. A84 our property is cleary shown on all ordanance survey maps and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) earth we do not deny that the rod is close by but we are situated off road with parking and garden area to the front so it is clearly wrong to state that we are right on it. Perhaps you should have checked this out a bit more prior to arrival since you live only a short distance away (less than 2 hours) It is a true saying that you cannot please everybody all of the time I am just pleased to state that we mange to do so over 95% so I guess that we just have to put your family down to experience and wish you well.

Booked on behalf of my grandparents who cannot rate the place enough. Rita was so friendly and helpful both before and during stay. The lodge is beautiful and decorated really well. Everything was there in the lodge, didn't need to bring a thing. The homemade pancakes and other goodies upon arrival were a very thoughtful and appreciated touch. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful secluded getaway but also close enough to local village.

Beautiful place, spacious with a great kitchen. Wonderful outdoor space and lots of amenities nearby, but definitely a bit of a walk to the town centre.
