The space
A traditional Welsh cottage and despite it's name 'Ty Newydd' meaning new house, it's one of the oldest houses in the area with the original part of the cottage said to date back well over 300 years. Kept in the same family for the last 70 years, it's had many transformations. During the boom of the slate quarry, the house was owned by the station master, the public footpath that leads down from the cottage takes you to the old train building where the locomotives were stored.

The old part of the house (Kitchen) is said to date back to the 17th Century and the newer part (Lounge and Bedrooms) date back to the 19th Century. Between the two, where the bathroom is now located, there existed a water wheel, powered by a small stream that has since been diverted through the fields, with a small pond in the back garden holding the water to power the wheel.

Guest access
Access to the whole house and gardens, including the orchard we are developing at the rear of the property.

Other things to note
Just one mile from the Welsh village of Llanrug, with local pubs, shops and an award-winning butcher, this attractive detached cottage is also within easy reach of the popular town of Llanberis. This lovely country cottage enjoys a rural location near the picturesque River Rhythallt, with elevated views across the valley towards Snowdon. Enter the cosy sitting room, where you are welcomed by an open fire and two doors leading off to a ground floor double bedroom and a single bedroom, and from the hallway there are steep steps leading up to a further single bedroom. The ground floor bathroom is well presented, with a bath and a shower, while two steps lead into the kitchen, with its social dining space, and on to a small handy boot/drying room. Outside, the gardens offer the opportunity to sit and take in the tranquillity of the area and the stunning views, with access to the adjoining grazing field available if required. Outbuildings provide storage for bikes and other equipment and a footpath passes the front of the drive, leading down to the river and into Llanberis, which is about an hour’s walk away. If you prefer, why not jump on the narrow gauge steam railway that runs the length of Llyn Padarn and enjoy a five-mile return trip instead? The village of Llanberis offers numerous shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as Electric Mountain and watersports on the lake. It is also one of the main starting points for the hike to Snowdon’s peak, making it a great base for walkers! This lovely cottage offers a fantastic touring base for couples and small families to discover the delights of the Snowdonia National Park and beyond.
