This lovely property is close to the open high country of Sunfair Heights in North Joshua Tree, about 20 minutes from the village center. It has 360 degree unimpeded views of serene desert & star-studded sky.
Built in 1958 & newly remodeled, this mid-century homestead sits on 5 acres of natural habitat. Here is peace and quiet, rolling hills & glorious sunrises/sunsets. This home is especially good for writers looking for a place free of distractions. Some dirt roads, but no 4WD needed.

The space

There are two bedrooms and one full bathroom, all newly remodeled and equipped with modern appliances and USB outlets. All rooms have large picture windows. It is equipped with a washer & dryer & dishwasher. There is filtered water, and the refrigerator has an ice maker for your convenience. Each room is set up with its own split-duct AC/Heating unit with individual controls. There is a firepit outside with seating. We now have wifi for our guests.

Guest access

The entire home and grounds (5 acres of open land).

Interaction with guests

I live in the area and am available to help with any issues that may arise, and to offer advice on local events, restaurants, hiking spots, etc.

Other things to note

This area of Joshua Tree is sparsely populated and has dirt roads which means that there is virtually no traffic or neighbor noise. The roads are bumpy but safe if you take them at a slower speed and no 4 wheel drive is necessary.

Check out by 11AM

Check-in time is 3 to 9 pm exclusively. Please arrange travel to coincide with this window. There is no night porter, key must be picked up from me at my house before going to rental only during this time. Please be advised that traffic on a weekend extends the usual 2.5 hour trip from LA to 3 to 4 hours and that there are no streetlights which makes it difficult to find the rental in the dark, so it is advisable to arrive before sunset.

- Fire pit to be used only when no wind is present.
- A/C and heater to be shut off when guests are not at home.
-Use only plastic spatulas in non-stick pans.
-Clean the dishes and appliances after use. The cleaning fee does not
cover dirty dishes or pots which are to be put in dishwasher and turned on.
-Desert tortoises seek shade in hot weather, so please check under your car in case one has settled there. If so, turn on the engine and wait for it to depart. Do not touch it, or pick it up.
Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. Key must be returned to Sylvia's mailbox by 11:30 a.m.

This is a perfect hideaway! You'll be driving around 5 or 6 miles on dirt road that can get pretty bumpy at times. If you're in a small car you'll probably be dropping down to 10-15mph for the last mile or so. The house is in a wonderfully secluded place and the windows allow for a ton of light to get in. The kitchen is well stocked and the couch is super comfortable! The picnic table outside if perfect for enjoying a meal while watching the sunset or sunrise. Sylvia was a perfect host! Since she didn't have anyone else coming in the day we left, she let us take our time for checkout. The house is an easy 20-30 minutes from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park! We spent our entire Saturday there .

Response from Sylvia:
Because of the high mineral content in the local water, the water spots on the dishware can look like the item has not been washed, but in fact, it has. The bathroom floor is wet-mopped before each guest but I suppose it's possible that a single hair might have escaped our effort. As to the "two places" Katy is referring to the fact that she had to come to my house to pick up the key before going on to the rental. It took her 10 minutes to do this.

Gordon is awesome and his place is amazing!! The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking :) we spent our evenings watching the starts and days exploring the park. Couldn't ask for a better place or set up. The house has everything you need: coffee machine, blender, AC, very comfy bed, great water pressure, its clean, safe and has the best views ever!!!

Sylvia was an AMAZING host and her place was AWESOME! It was not only extremely clean and well-kept, it had all of the modern amenities that we all enjoy. The place has a perfect location with a great fire pit, and the furniture and space was also very open and inviting. It was a perfect little weekend getaway escape and Sylvia was also extremely hospitable and inviting. It was definitely one of our best AirBnB experiences, and we will definitely be back!!

This is the first time that a hotel or rental has exceeded my expectations. The house was larger, quieter, nicer, cleaner and newer than I expected. It is a good 5 miles down dirt roads, but the solitude and expansive views in the morning made it all worthwhile. I loved my stay there!

This was the perfect place for writing/creating/recording music. We were able to write/record a song from start to finish without noise/interruptions or fear of bothering neighbors. There are dirt roads, so it takes some time to get it, so we recommend stocking up on groceries and staying put! It was so relaxing and beautiful and quiet. The home is lovely with stunning views. Sylvia is very kind. You do need to meet her ahead of time to get the key, so make sure you know your arrival time or she may not be available to meet when you first get there. The house is well stocked and it's as if every need is anticipated. Highly recommended.

Although it was difficult to find at night, the directions that Sylvia gave us was very helpful. The view was beautiful and so was the house. I would definitely stay there again.
