In the heart of Margate's thriving Cliftonville district, our Georgian town house is a short walk from the beach, the Old Town, Dane Park, The Shell Grotto, Dreamland and the Turner Contemporary. Our Scandinavian loft is spacious, has a brand new king sized bed with a foam mattress and a cosy atmosphere. Breakfast at our organic café, The Grain Grocer, is included in the price. Our room is perfect for a romantic retreat for two, as well as solo travellers, and dogs are welcome too!

The space

Up a steep ladder-like staircase you will enter into our magical and relaxing loft space that we like to call 'The Dojo'. Formerly an art/recording studio, this spacious room has a brand new king sized bed with a foam mattress, large desk space and small window. With walls that are adorned with original artwork and fairy lights, we hope you will find the atmosphere both calming and inspiring.

Guest access

Our bathroom is at the bottom of the stairs to The Dojo. It is simple, clean and bright with a corner bath and shower.

Interaction with guests

During your stay we will be able to advise you on fun and interesting activities, the best places to shop, beautiful walking routes and point you in the direction of the restaurants serving the most delicious food.

Other things to note

Included in your booking is a scrumptious and energising breakfast at our organic health café The Grain Grocer.

Katherine was a wonderfully accommodating and friendly host. The loft is beautiful and spacious with a lot of charm. The facilities were brilliant and having breakfast in the cafe was such a wonderful and considerate touch. :) Would recommend to anyone!

We had a lovely stay with Catherine & Charlie. It was a cute little room that felt very homely and with a friendly host. Thank you for having us.

Fun room to stay in...mind the stairs

This was all set out to be a five star stay — the loft is a gorgeous space in a quirky, cool house, located on a quiet street near a park and fairly close to the centre of town, where our little dog was welcome, with really lovely hosts whose communication was second-to-none — but unfortunately the mattress was of such poor quality that we barely slept a wink. Sadly, I'm only able to give it four stars at a push. Fundamentally, we booked this space to have somewhere great to sleep before delivering quite an important talk the next day, and we didn't get that. If the mattress gets sorted and there's a heating option provided for guests (the hot water bottle was lovely, but only fit for one person, and any colder and the room would have been pretty chilly indeed), this would be a solid 4-5 star stay (relative to the type of accommodation it is — this isn't luxury, it's quirky and creative: spotlessly clean, interesting and memorable, with a great shower and plenty of space for two people to do yoga in the morning!). Also: be aware that the steps up to the loft space are super steep. Possibly not suitable for people with mobility issues, although we found it fine (and kind of adventurous navigating the stairs!).

Response from Charlie & Katherine:
Hi Elloa. We're so sorry you had that experience with the mattress. We weren't aware of this problem until you and the person before mentioned it to us in your reviews. We are now in the process of buying a new one. There is a heater attached to the wall but forgot to tell you about it as we hadn't realised it was so cold up there. I hope you'll accept our sincerest apologies.

Its a really great spacious room, and Charlie was friendly and helpful ahead of check-in (though we never met as our hosts were away that weekend), but the bed was really uncomfortable, the bathroom was dirty, and we weren't left any towels in our room (there were other house guests and we didn't know if the towels in the bathroom were for us or already being used by others), so we were disappointed. Also unable to take breakfast on our second morning as the cafe doesn't open til 10 so we lost that bit of value on a price that's already not the cheapest.

Response from Charlie & Katherine:
Hi there Mark. We're really sorry you had this experience. It was difficult with us being out of town that weekend, and we wished we could have been there to look after you better. I'm really sorry there were no towels for you. It was our mistake. In regards to the bed, it has recently come to light that it needs replacing. We are in the process of buying a new one. Again, we hope you'll accept our sincerest apologies. If you're ever in Margate again, please come into the cafe for the breakfast you missed.

We had a lovely stay here, it's a great room (clean, spacious, but cosy) in a good location with everything in walkable distance. Charlie was friendly and helpful when we arrived, sharing a PDF of useful places and suggesting local restaurants. Breakfast the next morning in the Grain Grocer (as included in room rate) was a very nice way to end our Margate trip. Thanks!!
