Glamping at Mussel Beach Wilderness Campground, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island is off grid camping in style. Seascape, 1 of 5 wall tents, has a Queen bed with luxury bedding, a table & chairs, futon couch, wood stove, covered porch & outdoor kitchen with all the amenities. All tents are beach front with fantastic ocean views and minutes to the out houses and gravity fed out door showers. After a 30 minute slow drive down a logging road you arrive to do some serious chillaxing.

The space

The large, deluxe canvas tent is 14' x 16', nice and roomy for two adults. The futon couch converts to a double bed if extra space is needed. There is an outdoor, covered porch, covered kitchen and private beach front access. The cedar outhouse and heated showers are steps away and very clean. More photos on our website sodamnluckyvacations.

Guest access

Seascape is on it's own private site with an ocean view of Barkley Sound. There is a double hammock and a fire pit on site, or if you prefer have a beach fire and watch the night sky. On your arrival you will have a 18 L bottle of drinking water, a 16 L jug of non potable water, ice packs in your cooler and your first nights fire wood for your stove. After that you can purchase drinking water, ice & firewood at reasonable prices.

Interaction with guests

We spend our summers at Mussel Beach, so can help with anything you may need. Lori and Curtis manage Mussel Beach Wilderness Campground, so they are also available.

Other things to note

The gravel road to Mussel Beach is approximately 30 minutes. It can be a rough road, depending on time of year and weather, just GO SLOW and you will have no problems. Mussel Beach is Wilderness, off the grid, no power. We do, however, get good cell service due to the Coast Guard tower near by. Note that the Mussel Beach gate is closed between 10pm and 7am. Message us if you need to make arrangements to get in at this time.

What a wonderful place this is - there are no words which describe this beautiful, peaceful and just amazing spot on earth! We loved it - staying in this tent and doing a fire - so romantic and just awesome. You don't have to go for adventures - we saw bears and eagles in wildlife - so beautiful! Danielle and Mark are so nice and helping you out with everything.

This was the 2nd time we stayed here. And this time we rented 2 tents! One for us and the kids and one for the parents. We had a great time and their grand daughter Jazzie was probably the smartest kid we ever met. She knows everything about the nature and the sea animals and the trees. If you bring kids deffinitly ask for a Jazzie tour!

Response from Danielle & Mark:
Haha! Jazzy has always been an encyclopedia of nature facts. She has made so many friends here over the summer, and taken so many families on a Mussel Beach tour! Thanks for mentioning Jazzy!

The wilderness lodge was super neat. Very cool to be out in the middle of nowhere on Vancouver Island. However, getting there was quite a challenge. There is a long, bumpy, gravel road that takes at least 30 minutes to travel from the Tofino/Ucluelet highway. You should plan to take this road during the daytime, and if you are driving a sedan or basic vehicle be very cautious. It is super, super, super bumpy - there are hundreds of potholes, most of which are impossible to avoid. It would be extremely helpful to guests if the potholes in this road were filled and the road improved. But the lodge itself and the campground was great.

Response from Danielle & Mark:
It was a shame you were only out here for one night Anthony. It was a pleasure meeting you. We are off grid and this is part of what makes Mussel Beach so magical. As we advise in our description, just to go slow on the logging road - it's only 8km and takes about a half hour. Mussel Beach is so worth it...

We are active, retired restauranteurs with passions for food, friends and family. We kayak all over Vancouver Island, mountain bike and hike for fun and adventure. We spend a lot of our time sourcing out new areas to visit and explore - Vancouver Island has been our home for over 30 years!
