The space
Message from the owner: This vacation home is kept CLEAN AND SANITARY: In view of Coronavirus concerns, we’d like to reassure our vacation renters that we are now taking additional steps on every cleaning to keep this vacation home safe for you and your loved ones. Our cleaning crew is instructed to thoroughly disinfect and sanitize all kitchen and bathroom surfaces, as well as frequently touched surfaces such as tabletops, light switches, door knobs, remote controls, etc. Linens and towels are thoroughly washed. A disinfectant aerosol (Lysol spray) is sprayed on furniture. Nevertheless, we recommend that all guests follow the recommendations of the CDC, which include: frequently wash your hands, avoid touching your face between hand washings, and avoid direct contact with people in public places as you travel.

This 2625 sq. ft. vacation home sits on a 5.6 acre property with plenty of privacy. Free hi-speed WiFi is provided that reaches the entire home and the area around it. The owners are very familiar with Yosemite Park and local attractions. We are happy to look at maps (provided at the home) with you, and make suggestions about the many things to do and points of interest all around this beautiful area that includes Yosemite National Park, Bass Lake, Lake McClure, the wild and scenic Merced River and other attractions.

You'll find plenty of outdoor living space at this home that is immersed in a beautiful natural setting. Long covered decks wrap around three sides of the home, with plenty of outdoor seating provided. A newly renovated pergola sunshade (2018) keeps the rear deck comfortable on the sunniest days. Additional benches on the property offer breathtaking views of the foothills of the Sierras from their own vantage points. An outdoor fountain and irrigated gardens complement the surrounding natural granite rock formations. Relax and listen to the birds and the gentle sounds of the fountain as you enjoy the grand panoramic mountain views and sunsets from the decks. The rear deck is equipped with a BBQ grill and 2 dining tables. Deer can often be seen on the property as well as squirrels, rabbits, quail, wild turkeys, and many other bird species.

This home has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. (The 3 bedrooms alone contain a total of 3 queen size beds and 2 twin beds.) The master bedroom suite is downstairs and the other 2 bedrooms are upstairs, sharing a bathroom between them. The very private downstairs den has an additional queen size sleeper couch, so it can act as a 4th private bedroom for large groups. There is also a queen size sleeper couch in the Great Room, to use when needed, plus there are 2 large single-size folding foam pads and an air mattress for the floors if needed. So, you'll have a lot of sleeping choices when it comes to the unique needs of your group. (A crib, highchair and child gates are also available for families that need them.)

Amenities include a 6-person hot tub with 81 jets. It provides a great place to converse as you enjoy a relaxing massage after a day of hiking. It's in a great private location for mountain scenery and star gazing. The entire home has central forced air heating and air conditioning. The spacious Great Room has a vaulted ceiling and a wood burning fireplace with glass doors, backed by a custom stone hearth. It provides a cozy ambiance during cool weather. (Firewood provided.) Relax on the leather couch and recliners as you visit with family and friends in the Great Room. Or watch Satellite TV or a DVD (from our collection) on the 42 inch flat screen TV. The kids can also play games, or watch TV or movies on a second 42 inch flat screen TV in the large private den.

The modern kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need to prepare and serve your meals, including a large assortment of spices. It adjoins the dining room with its long table that can seat up to 12.

If you're looking for a beautiful and peaceful natural setting as a home base for your excursions into Yosemite Park, you'll love Deer Ridge Vacation Home!

Guest access
This entire home is rented in its entirety to only one group at a time. It's a 5.6 acre property with a large back yard and 2 very large decks. Has a private 6-person hot tub for your exclusive use.

Other things to note
For the more adventurous among you, rent a kayak or take a white water rafting trip with one of the commercial rafting companies that provide trips down portions of the Merced River in the springtime. (The Merced River flows out of Yosemite Park. Best to make rafting reservations in advance.) There are also local zipline adventures to enjoy.

This vacation home is 36 miles from the west entrance of Yosemite Park (closest to Yosemite Valley) and 42 miles from the south entrance (for the Mariposa Grove of 500 magnificent Giant Sequoia trees with trails through the forest). Traveling toward the south entrance, you can also visit Bass Lake (33 miles from this home) with its sandy beaches, boat rentals, hikes and restaurants. The historic Sugar Pine Railroad is also in that vicinity, taking guests on a 4-mile adventure while sitting on open rail cars pulled by a historic steam locomotive through a scenic fir and pine forest.

There are plenty of other interesting and fun things to see and do around the charming town of Mariposa, such as visiting the local museums. The Mariposa Museum and History Center in town reveals the rich history of the pioneer gold-rush days of the late 1800s. The California State Mining and Mineral Museum at the fairgrounds has a large amazing display of a vast selection of the colorful wonders of nature mined from the earth worldwide. Or spend an afternoon in the Mariposa County Park, where you'll also find tennis courts, skateboard park, picnic tables, and a playground. Sequoia National Park and King's Canyon National Park are even close enough for a day-trip.

SPRING is the best time to see waterfalls at their peak in Yosemite Park. The snow remaining in the highest elevations melts and flows into streams that feed the waterfalls. Other than an occasional rain, you'll find very pleasant weather and smaller crowds for hiking. Some higher elevation hikes may be closed until late spring. This is a great time to raft the Wild and Scenic Merced River, or take amazing wildflower hikes in the Merced River Canyon or Hite's Cove, outside the park (March-May). Enjoy family fun at the Butterfly Festival in Mariposa (first weekend in May) or try to win the $10,000 prize at the Annual Fishing Derby at Bass Lake (first weekend in May).

SUMMER offers months of dry, warm, sunny weather. All hiking trails are open throughout the park. The high elevation roads to Glacier Point and Tioga Pass are open. This is a good time for horseback riding, morning hiking, bicycling, and even Merced River swimming in Yosemite and Briceberg Canyon. Bass Lake is another great place for swimming, boating and hiking. (Boat rentals available). The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is a fun family experience. Ride in open railroad cars, pulled along historic tracks through a beautiful forest, by a steam locomotive. Enjoy musical events on weekend evenings in the Art Park in then the town of Mariposa.

AUTUMN is a wonderful time to hike in Yosemite! The gorgeous fall colors last for months. Cooler but comfortable weather and smaller crowds make this time of year special and invigorating! Most waterfalls have diminished flows in the fall, but Vernal and Nevada Falls are still spectacular! Plenty of sunshine despite an occasional rain. Enjoy the beautiful greening foothills at one of the local ziplines. Family fun at the 4-day County Fair at the Mariposa Co. Fair Grounds over Labor Day weekend. Amazing natural wonders at the CA State Mining and Mineral Museum.

WINTER When snow begins to fall in Yosemite ice-skating, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing (especially in the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias) are special treats. (Rentals available.) The mountains glisten in the sun. Hiking paths in Yosemite Valley are plowed and often free of snow. Make a snowman or go sledding. Horse-drawn sleigh rides or hayrides available at Christmas just outside the park. You’ll enjoy the brisk but varying weather if you dress in layers. Days are often clear, even in winter. In Mariposa, at 2,000 ft. elevation, snow is infrequent and melts, but if you want to play in the snow you can always find it at some elevation in Yosemite Park. (Yosemite Park requires that tire chains for 2 tires be carried by all vehicles during the winter (including 4WD, AWD and rental cars) but chains aren't often needed unless driving higher than Yosemite Valley.

If you are looking for an adventurous vacation in a beautiful natural area, with gorgeous mountain views and easy access to Yosemite Park, you are sure to enjoy your stay at Deer Ridge Vacation Home!

Yosemite's west entrance, on Hwy. 140, is only 36 miles away from this vacation rental. This scenic highway from Mariposa, running through the Merced River gorge, is the shortest route to the Yosemite Valley (The Yosemite Valley loop road starts only 6 miles from the west entrance.) The other major gateway towns such as Oakhurst and Groveland are much further from the Yosemite Valley. While driving to the west entrance, 18 miles past Mariposa you"ll see the Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg. It has sandy beaches where you can have a family picnic, or stop to dip into the river on the way back from the Yosemite Park to cool off on a hot summer day. This area is also great for fishing, hiking, bicycling and wildlife viewing.
