I recommend this place after all if you want to experience living in a tatami house! However, take into account that even walking sound in the house can be heard from inside the room. This room is next to the toilet upstairs and you can hear clearly people walking and the toilet flush. The upside about this place is the residential area that is not far away from station which means very quiet and the great host! He explains everything to you clearly and very friendly when you need help!

Shogo's place is great of you'd like to discover a traditional japanese house and sleep on tatami mats. The only down-side is that the walls are very thin so Shogo asks you to remain very quiet after 11pm to not disturb other guests. It's right next to the Imperial palace and close to the metro station, with lots of shops and restaurants around, so conveniently located although a bit far from the old town center. Shogo was very helpful. He explained us where to change money, called a taxi for us and even wanted to give us one of his umbrellas when it started raining just when we needed to leave! We'd definitely recommend others to stay there for a traditional local experience.

This place was fantastic. Traditional and in a nice location. With a great host who can give you some real nice tips on what to do- thanks for the hot springs tip!! I would highly recommend this place if you are interested in a more traditional and authentic Japanese style home stay.

We had a great time staying in this guesthouse! We were welcomed very warmly by Taiki (staff of Guesthouse Kamiwatari) and we could also ask him any questions we had in mind about Kyoto. He gladly gave us recommendations about activities and restaurants. We also enjoyed just talking with Taiki about culture, history and language of Japan and he's also interested to hear about your own country! Our room was just to our exspectations. The shared ares of the house are kept really clean and even tough there is only one shower for four rooms we never had trouble to get to our turn :) All in all a wonderful time, we can absolutly recommend it!

Great stay at this ryokan! The hosts were very helpful in providing reccomendations for an okinimiyaki restaurant. We loved the room with the view over the garden, only thing is the walls are very thin so keep that in mind. Well connected to public transport and was great to experience sleeping on futons in a tatami room.

Taiki is very nice. We really have a very nice and special experience in there. The house is so traditional, so we can hear others room's voice. But it's very interesting, because we can living in the traditional Japanese house and try to quiet when we do everything.

I'm singer of band.
I was born in Kyoto in 1983. Since then, I live in Kyoto.

I have traveled all over Japan on work, travel is also a hobby of mine.
My favorite place is Berlin. Art and music is full of town, I felt very freedom.

I like camera, shrine, and folklore of Japanese.

Kyoto is a city with a history more than a thousand years. (From 1000years ago, my ancestors seems to live in Kyoto.)
Many people are still living, and many cultures keep living today.
I think Kyoto is the special place that I can feel not only people who live in the same era but also people who lived in various era.

There are a lot of places that I want to recommend to you.
And I prepare an entire apartment only for you that you can get good sleep and rest.

I hope you enjoy kyoto!
