Modern room in a calm neighborhood. Close to Amsterdam Central station, center, tourist attractions (total 30 - 37 mins) and Zaandam (total 5 - 21 mins) with public transport. Washer + dryer available. A bath is present. Parking possible. Pets allowed and dog walk at the end of the street. Bike for free if available (for a deposit). A temporarily home sweet home for freelancers, expats, students, world-travelers. Possible to stay 5 days until 6 months. Please ask for availability.

The space

The room is originally for just 1 person. It's quite perfect for short and long stay. You will have your own closet, mirror, small desk and an office chair. Wi-Fi is available. The room is available for short and long term.

The room has an option for an extra single bed. So this room can be booked by 2 people for a few nights and will be 'oke', but wouldn't advise for longer.

Guest access

You may use the kitchen, livingroom, the toilets, the garden and off course the bathroom. I prefer you use the toilet downstairs primarily to keep the bathroom free all the time (also at night).

Interaction with guests

You will be sharing the house with me (Wesley), the owner of the house. I’m happy to answer questions if you have any and I’m open for suggestions and feedback. You can always contact me online in advance and during your stay. Good tips for visiting Amsterdam and Zaandam.

Other things to note

I would like to mention that my home is my home and not a hostel or a hotel. It’s highly appreciated when you help to keep the house clean when you have used the shower, kitchen or toilet. In this way I can keep the price per night low as possible.

I prefer that the check-in is after 17:00 during the week (Monday – Friday), because of my fulltime job. During the weekend, Saturday – Sundays, it’s possible for other check-in times.

Any other time is possible and discussable. Let me know your time of arrival (airport or trainstation) and I will check what the possibilities are.

Great place, great host, the only down side is that the location is not so convenient, but good thing is that it's very quiet in the night.

Response from Wesley:
Li-De, thank you for your review. I'm interested to hear more about your experience of the location. This neighbourhood is a popular tourist location, where you are in between Amsterdam and the world famous Zaanse Schans (wooden windmills heritage site), with it's specific busline (#391) for tourists/travelers and a few hotels around the corner. The time of traveling is well pointed out at my Airbnb-pages. So for next time: if you experience any incovenience feel free to ask a host all the time. I'm happy to help out and answer your questions.

You can tell Wesley loves his home and wants you to as well. With love comes responsibility, there are handfuls of rules that come with booking. At times you might feel you're not on vacation because of the level of detail you're expected to maintain. The house is in a rustic, very quiet neighborhood. If you're used to bustling city life you may find it suspiciously quiet at times. Zaandam is completely it's own world. Although the host lives approximately 30 to an hour away, 7 minutes to the closest bus, and a half hour walk to the closest train, it can become a trek venturing to Amsterdam if that's your main goal. You'll find each town in Holland has its own city square, history, and promenade. I found myself trying to taking advantage of as much of I could of Amsterdam I wish I would've went to a few more restaurants or stores in Zaandam. Wesley's place felt very much like the quiet, suburban college dorms a bus ride away from the more ebullient downtown area, Amsterdam. A nice separate space to return to from the more lively town center or neighboring cities. Although, with the level of maintenance, you might not find it the most joyful place for recovering from partying; it definitely will provide those seeking peace, quiet, and pristine cleanliness a cathartic stay.

Response from Wesley:
Marcus, thank you for your sweet review. If it took you 1 hour to Amsterdam you definetely took the wrong public transport. ;) If you are afraid to get lost when you are unexperienced traveler: feel free to ask how to get here or anywhere else. I will try to provide more information for the next guests. It's your decision to walk to the trainstation, the bus will bring you there in 9 minutes. The handful of rules isn't that difficult: what you use, you keep it clean. Just as you do at your own home.

Hello there! I'm Wesley. I live in a city (really!) close to Amsterdam, called Zaandam. Compared to London it's still in the center. Zaandam is known as the first industrial area in the world with the lovely wooden windmills with it's typical green paint at 'the Zaanse Schans' for example. The Zaanse Schans is world famous and known as the 3rd popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands.

In daily life I work as an online marketeer for the non-profit environmental organisation Greenpeace. As a kid I got inspired by the song 'man in the mirror' by Michael Jackson. So I try to make a small change everyday.

Due to circumstances I wasn't able to travel for about 7 years. Recently I decided to welcome people from abroad to my home sweet home. Thank you to all the people who stayed until now and thank you in advance for the people who will. Thanks to you I get inspired each day and it also helps me to discover the world again. Everyone is welcome at my place. From 5 days until 6 months. Feel free to ask me about the availability or the possibilities for the check-in.

Everyone is welcome!
