Les Tourterelles Annecy couldn’t be better placed for visiting this stunning medieval town. Set in the historic walls, this 4 star first-floor apartment dating back to 1700 was part of a former convent and is less than a minute’s walk from the famous Palais de l’Île, the castle and the lake.

You don't need to bring your car - everything you could need is right on your doorstep - cafes, bars and restaurants, a huge variety of unique shops, lakeside beaches and cycle trails.

Pick up delicious cheese, chocolates and other local produce at the markets, which take place three times a week, rummage through dusty antique and book shops or just explore the cobbled streets and canals that criss-cross this Venice of the Alps. There's also a popular flea market, on the last Saturday of the month, which is worth a visit.

Annecy is just four hours from Paris by train, and less than 30 minutes from Geneva airport, so it’s perfect for a short break, but if you can, make time to explore the lakeside villages and the mountains that surround them.

An unassuming wooden door in the medieval walls of Annecy gives no hint of the charming apartment that lies beyond. Open it, and you’ll find a worn stone spiral staircase that reflects the history of this former convent, built in 1700.

Les Tourterelles is a first-floor apartment that sleeps four in two double bedrooms (the beds in the second bedroom can be arranged as doubles or twins).

It has been sensitively refurbished by the owners, who worked with a team of interior designers. They have restored the high ceilings and teamed a mixture of modern and antique furniture with chandeliers and Swedish wallpapers to create a restful and welcoming home. The sunny dining kitchen overlooks the cobbled street and the steps to the chateau, as does the separate living room, where you can relax in front of the television (with French and international satellite channels), or people-watch from the large windows. The fireplace provides ambience, while underfloor heating keeps the whole apartment cosy.

In the summer, the thick stone walls and the interior shutters keep the rooms refreshingly cool. The main bedroom has a walk-in dressing room and an en suite bathroom with a roll-top bath, with a washing machine and tumble drier in a separate space. The second bedroom has a wash basin, with a separate shower room and toilet. Both bedrooms have views across the tiled roofs of the old quarter of the town.

The apartment is sound-insulated, there is an integrated system for TV, music, films and phone and wifi throughout the apartment.


A town apartment may not seem the obvious choice for a winter holiday, but Annecy’s Alpine location puts it at the heart of several resorts that offer fabulous skiing.

Semnoz is just 20 minutes away, and a 30-minute drive will bring to the Aravis resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, where 220km of pistes offer challenges for skiers of all abilities. The resorts also offer plenty of scope for cross-country skiers and snowshoe walkers.

At the end of a day in the mountains, enjoy an evening in one of the many bars or restaurants in this medieval town - apres-ski doesn’t come much better than this! (please note there is no storage space for skis inside the apartment, but there are many ski hire shops in the resorts.)

In December, the whole town gets the festive spirit, with fairy lights, Christmas markets, concerts and an ice rink. Towards the end of the ski season in March, Annecy plays host to a Venetian carnival, when hundreds of masked and costumed figures parade around the cobbled streets and bridges posing for photographs. It’s a sight not to be missed.

In the summer, Annecy has something for everyone - a romantic city steeped in history, fine dining, boutique shopping, watersports, mountain activities and picturesque villages to explore. Book a short break at Les Tourterelles and you can explore the flower-decked streets and canals, the castle, and the 12th century Palais de l’Île.

Watch the world go by over a coffee in a street cafe, take a cruise on the lake, or pick up some local specialities at the Sunday food market. If you’ve a little more time and energy, enjoy a round of golf or hire bikes and cycle the 40km route around the lake.

The more energetic might prefer to tackle the mountain routes which often feature in the Tour de France. (Please note there is no storage space for bikes inside the apartment. There is however a great bike hire shop with late opening hours virtually next door.)

Annecy is the parapente centre of France and it’s an adrenalin-filled way to get a different perspective on the city.

As the summer turns to autumn, the city celebrates the return of the animals from the pasture (Retour des Alpages) - local produce is the star of this festival, when the streets are packed with folk bands, food stalls and cows. Other dates for your diary are the Festival International du Film d'Animation - an animation festival that was originally part of the Cannes film festival - and the Lake Annecy marathon in April. Even if you're not running, it's a great spectacle and the atmosphere in the town is buzzing!

Please note the apartment is in a pedestrian zone, the free parking space provided is a 200m walk away, up the slope by the castle. There are 2 bathrooms at the property, and one wc.

The maximum capacity of the property is 4 plus a baby of up to 3 years old.

Les Tourterelles is a stricly "No Smoking" property.

We require a 500 euro security payment on arrival, we take this as a pre-authorisation of your credit/debit card (no funds will be taken from your account and the pre-authorisation will be cancelled, following our inspection of the property after your departure, if there has not been any damage).

Arrivals are normally between 16:00 and 19:00 and departures before 10:00. We are also able to accept arrivals between 19:00 and 24:00 for an additional cost of 50 euros (payable on arrival).

If you tell us you are going to arrive at a specific time and are then late without letting us know, we charge 25 euros for each hour that a member of our team waits for you.

This apartment was an absolute gem! It is beautifully decorated inside and is located right in the middle of town. You couldn't find a better location. The kitchen was huge and we appreciated the fireplace given it was a particularly rainy weekend. Comfortable beds, good living space, rain shower and large bath were all great. The car park was handy and only a short walk away (up a hill but after all the Savoie wine and cheese we needed the exercise!). Virginie was lovely during our check in/check out and communication was always fast and easy. Thanks!
