Welcome! We are located in a pleasant historic neighborhood. Weather permitting, we are walking distance to Grand Ave & Selby-Dale with great restaurants, nice bars, and coffee (15-20mins walk or 5mins lyft/uber). Our area is immediately residential with cool stuff close by. Light-rail is walking distance (8mins), connecting you to virtually anywhere in the Twin cities & the airport. Enjoy the colonial charm of our home and your cozy bed. You are welcome to enjoy tea/coffee on the house anytime.
Welcome to our charming home in St Paul, Minnesota. We love our place and are happy to share it with you. Our home was built in 1904 which gives it a great deal of old school charm and vintage vibes. Everything has been updated in the interior which makes it quirkily modern while maintaining the original feel. It is spacious as we enjoy the openness and minimal clutter. The first floor has a big living and dining area, a nice kitchen, and a bedroom converted to a music/workout/miscellaneous room. The second floor has two bedrooms (ours and the guests'), a shared bathroom, and a study. Being energy conscious, we do not tend to spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Thus we do not anticipate sharing the space being a problem at all.
Our roommates are our too-cool-for-school cat, Stout, and our sweet Shiba Inu, Kitty. Both of them are quite loving and independent. They love to play if people want to play with them but are not imposing.
Our house is an 8 minutes walk from the Victoria light rail station. This gives you quick access to virtually anywhere in the Twin Cities. We are also walking distance from Grand Avenue and Selby-Dale (15-20 minutes walk, 5 minutes drive), both well-know areas to enjoy food, coffee, drinks, shopping and just to hang out. We are also a close transit to schools/Universities such as William-Mitchell (walking distance), Concordia, Macalester, Hamline, and the Univ. of Minnesota. We advise guests to check the weather before venturing out on foot. Single digit temperature is not always fun to walk in! App-based rides (Uber, Lyft) and taxis are also easily available.
We welcome guests to make a cup of tea or coffee for themselves anytime. Depending on ours' and the guests' schedule, we are happy to connect more if opportunity arises.
We keep the house at a pleasant temperature. To accommodate all, we provide extra blankets, thinner flat sheets, a space heater, AC (in summer), and there are ceiling fans.
You can access all parts of the house including the shared bathrooms, kitchen, desk in the study, reading nook, the living room, and the dining room.
Bathrooms: We keep the bathrooms very clean and are quick to get ready. We coordinate with guests to make sure that our schedules do not clash.
Kitchen: We've had many folks who made and ate dinner at the house, the kitchen is well equipped and we are always happy to make more space in the fridge if you need to store more things than a few take out boxes.
Study: There is a desk and a quiet study if you need to do some work.
Reading nook: We have a charming reading nook to cozy up with a book.
Living/dining rooms: Both are accessible for you to use.
Interaction with guests
We are open to guests that are sociable as well as those who would like a more private experience. When school and research gets busy, you may see less of us, but please, let us know if we can do anything to make your stay more comfortable and pleasant.
We are both PhD. students in Applied Economics at the U of MN. We both research food issues. Vanee is interested in food waste while Dom is interested in food security issues. When we are not doing academic things, we enjoy live music, films, weird tv shows, and good food/drinks. We are also quite passionate about social justice. We would want to host people who also think that issues for minorities, queers, and other disadvantaged groups matter.
- We want you to enjoy your experience staying at our place. Except for our bedroom, please feel free to enjoy all spaces around the house including the kitchen, study, bathrooms, outdoors (bonfire and patio), living room, and dining room
- Our cat Stout is sneaky, please be careful when entering or leaving the house. He may sneak out quickly.
- We are conscious about recycling and composting. Available are a recycling bin, a compost bin and a trash can in the kitchen. We urge our guests to use them while at ours.
Welcome to our home in Minnesota. We both really enjoy our place and it is great to share it with you. We are both Research Assistants at the University of Minnesota and are working on our PhD in Applied Economics. Yes, we are Economics nerds.
You'll see our great selection of music records and we hope you will share and discover some new tunes when you visit us. We enjoy putting a record on and making a delicious meal in the evenings. As food lovers, we are happy to give recommendations for awesome eats around. This place offers great Banh mis, ramen, Indian buffet, pastas, burgers, tamales, and anything you can think of.
We are also movies enthusiasts - it is hard to pick favorites but Irreversible, Oldboy and Dope are definitely up there.
