Built in 1790, Casa Sotolongo is one of the oldest colonial houses in Trinidad, Cuba. Our location can't be beaten; being the only family house facing the historic Plaza Mayor. Trinidad became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.
Our house is close to parks, art and culture, great views, restaurants and a short drive to the beach. You’ll love staying at our colonial home and if you're a History enthusiast you'll feel you have traveled back in time.
We welcome all travelers, even groups & kids.

The space

This colonial home belonged to an important sugar plantation owner named José Mariano Borrell y Padrón who lived in the house until his death in 1830. He was also responsible for building some of the most significant houses (museums today), the main square and paving the streets with the cobble stones Trinidad is known for.
For 6 generations the Sotolongo family has lived in this house, preserving it's history and maintaining the original layout.

The house has an spacious living room followed by a family room and the master bedroom (the owner's quarters). The family room then opens to a terrace and a long & bright patio with lounge area and outdoor dining space. All 3 rooms available for rent open up to this patio as well; featuring floor to ceiling doors & windows.
The newly renovated kitchen is located out back as well as 2 more rooms.

Your bedroom space:
You will be staying in a bright big room with 2 full beds. Closet & drawer space is available, as well as a small lounge space with chairs & table. Some of the furniture you will be using are antiques.
The room also has a private, spacious bathroom with amenities.
Our family has been in the hospitality business for 20 years now and we hope you'll feel at home with us.

Other things to note

* Currency
In Cuba, we operate with 2 different currencies: the CUC (dollar) and the CUP (Cuban peso). In state run stores you can pay with either currency; while in private restaurants & businesses you will most likely be charged in CUC (dollar).
Once you enter Cuba, you will have to change your cash into CUC; you can do this at state run exchange houses called CADECA (Casa de Cambio). To avoid scams and losing money, don’t accept any changes from people on the streets.
Here are the exchange rates:
$1 USD = $0.90 CUC
$1 CUC = $24 CUP (varies)
For more information you can visit (URL HIDDEN)

* Wi-Fi
There is limited internet availability in Cuba. Aside from the internet rooms at the phone company; you will be able to connect to WI-FI in designated hot spot areas around town. To do this you need to purchase an internet card ($2 for one hour) at ETECSA (the phone company).
Luckly you will be able to connect from the comfort of our home using these cards.

This room exceeded our expectations. The location was great. We were able to walk anywhere and get back to our room within minutes, if needed. Carlos was amazing and made us feel right at home. Stay here if you plan on visiting Trinidad!

You can't find a more central location in Trinidad. It's a colonial house that has been restored and has an interesting history. The house is kept clean and the hosts are friendly and knowledgeable.

This casa couldn't be more central, right on the Plaza Mayor. We had a nice stay here, though there are a lot of people on the street late at night, it was very quiet in the room. Breakfast was really good, taxi's are available right on the corner. Carlos Luis was available for any information we needed. Muchos gracias :)

This casa was seriously a dream -- the best possible location I could have imagined, directly next to Plaza Mayor, which then is right next to a lot of food and nightlife options (including the amazing Casa de la Musica, which we unfortunately only visited once!). The room itself was very spacious and comfortable, with the courtyard being an awesome spot to have breakfast in the morning. Carlos Luis and his parents were so welcoming -- Carlos Luis picked us up a block away from the casa where our taxi dropped us off, and answered any questions we had - even on his birthday! Highly recommend this place!

This place was exactly as described. In the center of the old town of Trinidad, close to bars and restaurants we spend one night in this beautiful house. The room was very big and comfortable. The communication with Carlos was very easy and we felt very welcome. We highly recommend this place!!
