The Gate Cottage is set under two 100-year-old oak trees in the authentic heritage gardens of Glen Isla House (c1870) We're close to the Little Penguins (Penguin Parade) 10 minutes drive, shops & restaurants in Cowes are 1700 metres, & The Grand Prix Circuit is just 10 minutes drive. A sandy beach beckons 120 metres (direct access) out the back gate.
The Gate Cottage is suited to couples & families with older childen but not younger children or infants. (there are 17 steps up to the bedrooms).
The Gate Cottage is an elegant self-contained cottage offering two bedrooms upstairs (master Bedroom with KING bed and second bedroom with TWIN single beds) with dorma windows overlooking the heritage gardens. The two bedrooms share a bathroom (with shower).
Pricing here on AirBnB is for the master bedroom with King Bed madeup (2 persons).
If you require either or both of the single beds in the second bedroom please enter adttional guest to max of 2 additional guests (we require 24 hours notice to make up the additional bedding). Maximum occupancy of the Gate Cottage is 4 persons.
If you don't require the second bedroom, that's ok. The beds won't be made-up. You still have exclusive use of the Gate Cottage!
Downstairs the fully equipped kitchen (real stainless steel stove, dishwasher, microwave, and big fridge etc) allows guests to prepare their own (self-cater) meals or a simple snack, and there is a club leather lounge with 42" LCD TV and BlueRay/DVD player adjacent to the dining area.
The cottage offers dedicated off-street parking, and a veranda overlooking the gardens at Glen Isla. Guests have free access to the 2 acres of authentic heritage gardens at Glen Isla, and of course free WiFi access (fair use policy applies).
The cottage is non-smoking inside at all times, but guests are welcome to smoke outside on the veranda and the gardens.
If you don't fancy preparing your own breakfast, there are numerous cafes nearby (3 minutes drive) in Cowes, offering breakfast from early to all-day. Your hosts can advise on cafes' and restaurants.
BTW, there are no laundry facilities in the Gate Cottage, however there is a coin laundrette in Cowes, 3 minutes drive from Glen Isla.
After check-in, guests may come and go as they please as the cottage is self-contained. The Gate Cottage is quite separate from the hosts residence and other accommodations at Glen Isla House.
The front gate at Glen Isla is always open, and the back gate (direct beach access) is also always open.
Interaction with guests
Resident owners and hosts Ian & Maddie live on site and are available for advice on things to see and do, restaurants and information about the Phillip Island Nature Parks (Little Penguins, Koalas, Seals and bird-watching).
Glen Isla has been wecloming guests since 2003, and is the most awarded accommodation property on the island with 5-star TripAdvisor 'excellence awards' (Hall of Fame) for the past 7 years running and Travellers' Choice Awards 2016 & 2017.
Other things to note
Glen Isla is a heritage property dating back to the late 1800's. There are 3 historic wells and a large un-fenced fish-pond on the property, and is unsuitable for younger children.
Glen Isla House (and the Gate Cottage) is officially registered as 'Prescribed Accommodation' with the local council, meaning that the property and accommodations are inspected annually by environmental health inspectors, and meets or exceeds their standards for short term accommodation. These accommodations are fully 'legal' and fully insured to be offered as short-term accommodation. The accommodations have a fire alarm systems compliant with the Victorian Building Regulations as a class 1B building and the fire safety equipment is inspected and certified twice annually by the authorities. The certificates are available for inspection at Glen Isla.
