1 1/2mile drive down a rough dirt road in the hills 20 miles from berea ky plenty of room to wander and hike there are hundreds of acres of woods around me. Beautiful creek runs right in front of my house and I have a very clean springfed pond suitable for fishing or swimming.screened porches, large guest bedroom upstairs with full size tempur-pedic bed, fold out couch and 2 futons. bathroom and an Open kitchen living room area that I am happy to share with my quests.

The space

I've lived my dream for the last 20 years and created a home out of nothing. I am so thankful for the experience and for the knowledge I gained living like I have and would love to share it. I live a mile and a half down a rough dirt road on 20 acres tucked beside the national forest. And in the midst of the hills outside of berea ky plenty of room to wander and hike there are many hundreds of acres of woods around me. Beautiful creek runs right in front of my house and I have a very clean springfed pond suitable for fishing or swimming and campfire next to the creek.
I have a wood heat stove and propane heater for heat also propane appliances, propane refrigerator, stove, hot water heater, dryer and have my house fully wired for electric and use a generator for electric. I've made it modern but completely off grid aside of dish net and dishTV satellite. (Which has been nice out here in the middle of nowhere lol). Porches wrap around three sides of the house and part of it is screened. there is a very large guest bedroom upstairs with a full size tempur-pedic mattress a couch that folds down into a full size bed and 2 full size futons that can be used for sleeping as well. One bathroom and an Open kitchen living room area that I am happy to share with my quests. I have chickens running around that supply me with countless eggs 2 dogs a cat and a beautiful white horse that loves people and attention.
In house professional massage therapy, yoga, and the possibility of horse drawn wagon rides are available with advanced notice , as well as breakfast lunch and dinner upon request and will be a charge of $10 per person per meal.

Guest access

Relaxing in the Peace and quiet off grid style:) , swimming, fishing, hiking, campfires and creeks. massage, yoga. 20 miles from berea ky

Interaction with guests

I will interact with you As much or little as you need me to. I will be home anytime there are guests here. I am a social being and glad to entertain and also respect that if you are here to just listen to the sounds of nature without interaction, then I'll be off getting chores done and here if you need any assistance.

Other things to note

My driveway is a rough dirt road and an experience in itself! Once you get through a mile and a half of driveway and admiring the beauty of the hills you find yourself in a little piece of heaven once the ride is over !! ANY VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT HAVE GOOD GROUND CLEARANCE (any cars) should NOT attempt to drive down the driveway! There is parking at the end of the driveway and I will pick you up in my truck or ATV whichever you prefer . Most of the year any vehicle with enough clearance ( truck or SUV.) will have no problem driving in the holler if you take it slow and I will lead the way into the holler. In the winter months 4 wheel drive is a necessity, in the case of anyone that has a car I am happy to meet you to drive you in and out as needed.

Respect is all I ask for! Pack it in pack it out!!! and leave space how you found it. Smoking outside only!!
I'm sorry no pets allowed due to chickens and a jealous lab.
1. You are welcome to use the kitchen if you choose to cook your own meals. I would expect that you leave the kitchen how you found it when you are through!
2. The door to the upstairs guest room needs to stay shut at all times so that heat is controlled and my 2 dogs do not go upstairs.
3. There is 1 bathroom you share with myself. you may keep your bathroom supplies neatly in bathroom
4. If you choose to drink alcohol while you are here I expect that you do so in moderation with respect. Any drunken disrespect will not be tolerated!!!
5. Catch and release if you are fishing in the pond!! The fish are not to take home!!! If you catch (big D) a huge bass that has learned to snap a line we might just have a good fish dinner
6. Have fun while you are here. Enjoy being in nature and Respect ther land and please do not leave trash or cigarette butts on the ground!!!
7. Pack it in pack it out

Kathryn's place was amazing! She was such an amazing host... great coffee and fruit yogurt in the morning... the friendliest animals and such a great insight into off the grid living. Her place is so peaceful and I loved the smell of wood from her house. ;)

This was my first time staying at a bed-and-breakfast and a off-grid cabin. It was way better than I could have ever imagined. I kind of thought it might be awkward to be staying with someone but Katherine was very accommodating and helpful. She cooks amazing and 95% of what we ate was organic. She made us a fire, we went walking on trails, at the end of the night she even made us dip snacks and popcorn while we watched a movie. She was so helpful and nice. This is the best experience I have ever had on any vacation by far and I will definitely be be back. It is truly peaceful and a good way to get away from everyday life and just spend time with someone you care about or just in tranquillity by yourself. She even has a spring-fed pond that we went to that would have been awesome to swim in if it was summer. There is so much Beauty and so many friendly people up in the holler. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to escape and have a great time.

Thank you, Kathryn for a weekend beyond what I expected! Your kindness, warmth, hospitality and friendship will be remembered forever. And, wow, how inspiring you are building such a beautiful sanctuary! We all have lots to learn from you. Plus your loving heart sure makes this world a much better place. And the other Berea folks are so warm and welcoming. What a beautiful, charming place and great downtown area with brilliant talented artists. I'll be back to explore again and enjoy your healing space!

We had a wonderful stay at Kathryns cabin..She is one of the very pleasant and dynamic personalities we ever seen...She took care of us from the time we booked the house and allowed us even late night for check in..she was right there in the town to receive us and always made us feel like it's our home...her cabin is extremely clean and kids friendly ....she was always available for our questions and she offered help immediately when we asked for anything...she is a wonderful cook and mostly uses organic ingredients for cooking ...we had wonderful break fast...her dogs are very friendly and I bought my first fish from her (URL HIDDEN) the night we had a great camp fire with grilling and children hanging out in hammock.if you want to disconnect from all hustle and bustle of weekly schdule and still enjoy your time in a modern cabin with a friendly host...this is your place. Am sure you will never ever be disappointed with your decision!!!!

This is a one in a kind place. It is in the boondocks. Catherine is a most gracious host. She has a pleasant personality and has a beautiful, rustic, and difficult to find setting. I am sorry I did not have more time to spend there. It was certainly pleasurable. Keep in mind, you were going into in "off the grid" setting and it will be much different than anything you've probably ever experienced in your life. However, I highly recommend it.

Kathryn and her cabin were great. She picked us up and drove us back into the holler where we had a lovely weekend. Two very friendly dogs kept us company next to the wood burning stove. The holler is a beautiful and quiet place to get away. Highly recommend.

Kathryn's Mountain Holler Retreat is absolutely lovely. The house smelled like maple syrup as soon as we walked in the door and felt as instantly homey as it possibly could. Kathryn is friendly, warm, and extremely interesting. She built a fire for us shortly after we arrived and provided s'mores ingredients and blankets. While we were enjoying sitting by the fire and looking at the stars, she brought out a healthy dip with fresh vegetables for us to snack on. We felt very taken care of and comfortable as a result of her kindness. We loved how peaceful her property was. It was so quiet and secluded and felt like the perfect getaway from city life. She allowed us to explore the property as much as we wanted to, but we fell so in love with the dock by the pond that we never ventured much further. With the sun shining and the breeze blowing, we read on the dock for hours, admiring the mountain landscape and all the beautiful fall colors. We loved our stay at Kathryn's mountain holler retreat and would definitely recommend it to others! After hiking at the Pinnacles all day, it was the perfect oasis to unwind and unplug.
