About this listing

Our Hobby Farm Cottage is perfect for the traveling horsemen, the solo adventurer, the couple, or the small family looking to get away. It sits overlooking our 10-acre pasture along with 55+ acres of trails, woods, and streams to explore.

The space

I just finished renovating the cottage after almost a year. It's been a slow but fun project as I was able to be a little creative when it came to decorating and what I used for materials. Probably my greatest accomplishment is the countertops that I made from concrete. My mom made the stained glass window in the bedroom. I'll continue to make small revisions to make it as authentic and handmade as possible.

Guest access

Horseback riding is available upon request. Please let us know in advance if you wish to ride, how many, and for how long. There is an extra charge depending on the type and length of riding you're interested in.

Fresh eggs for breakfast. You can collect them yourself or we can stock the fridge before you arrive. We also have farm raised chickens that you can purchase ($2.50/lb). If you let me know in advance I can have some thawed out for you to cook while you are here.

Interaction with guests

This is our first time hosting so we are eager to please. We've tried to think of ways to make it as accommodating as possible but encourage our guests to let us know if there is anything else we can do to make their stay more pleasant.

Other things to note

The farm is a work in progress so you might catch me there puttering with the animals or the numerous projects I have going. This year it's an outdoor BBQ/processing area, new fencing for pasture rotation, and trail blazing for walking/running, horseback riding, and ATVs. I will let you know if I'm going to be there and what I'll be up to so you can either participate or avoid me. I'll make every effort not to disturb your stay though.

The well water does contain sulfur and Iron which are filtered out but you may still smell the sulfur briefly when you turn on the hot water. It is safe to shower in and drink. The water from the fridge is probably better than most bottled water as it has a reverse osmosis system and is filtered a third time by the fridge itself.

Chris is a great host, very friendly and nice to chat with. Interior is super nice and cozy. Having a coffee in the morning while looking at the horses was a delight. I can imagine kids to have a blast with the ducks and chickens. Would/will stay again while in the region.

Chris was a great host. This farm setting was the perfect break from the hustle bustle of every day life. It was very relaxing and I would highly recommend visiting with this host. As a matter of fact the atmosphere was soo relaxing that it was hard to get up, out and about. Which was actually very enjoyable. The farm fresh eggs each morning were delicious treat as well.

Great city get away with the family. Clean, well equipped space. Comfortable places to sleep, fun loft bunk bed for a child or extra guest to enjoy, futon available to sleep on As well. Cable and Wifi available to my relief! Bathroom has a washer and dryer. Functional kitchen for those who want to cook. Rustic, quaint decor. Fire pit in back. I wish I brought materials to make S'mores. Children will enjoy visiting the horses, chicken and ducks. If you have time explore the trails in the back. Sweet and gracious hosts, willing to answer any questions about property and any concern you may have.

Wonderful host and a very nice secluded place to stay. It was a wonderful country experience. There is a great view out the back of the cottage of the horses. There were even some friendly ducks that welcomed us. We were able to harvest the eggs and experience country living. Chris was a great host and met us on the first day. The front door had a lock box and we were able to come and go without bothering the host. The details and woodwork throughout the cabin was beautiful. Just an all around wonderful stay. Thank you!

I'm only disappointed that I was able to stay just one night! Chris's cottage is adorable, spacious, and comes with everything you might need. The kitchen is amazing (those counter tops!!!). My daughter LOVED the animals. A pack of roaming ducks and a feisty kitten became her best friends... And those fresh eggs... Yum! The property was wonderful to explore and we loved all the wild flowers growing in the pasture. When we were back inside and tunes were in order, the quality of the bluetooth speakers was a wonderful surprise. We used the pullout futon as the second bed as opposed to the loft as both us adults were scaredy cats of the height, but it was super comfy. I would love to come back again for a longer stay next time. This place is a gem!

Awesome place! I wasn't expecting high end cooking range / fridge! Kids had fun getting their own eggs in the morning! Would definitively recommend staying there.

We can't say enough positive things about our experience at the Cottage. We came to the area for the weekend to see a concert at SPAC and explore Saratoga Springs with our 3.5 year old son. Chris was extremely responsive and helpful and made our late arrival as smooth as possible. The Cottage itself was even nicer than the pictures. It had everything we needed and more. It was clean, comfortable, and with some many special touches. It was evident that a lot of love and attention went into renovating the Cottage and I highly encourage reading the Welcome Binder Chris put together for his guests. Coming from a big city we found this to be a welcomed change to our daily routine. There's nothing like waking up to the sounds of roosters in the morning and visits from the ducks on the property. The chickens provided us with fresh eggs in the morning which we got to pick ourselves. While we didn't get a chance to meet Chris personally, we were in touch all throughout the weekend and we met his parents who were lovely and gracious hosts as well. This is an ideal place if you want a break from city life and want a spend a little time outdoors enjoying the wonders of farm life. We are already planning our next visit!
