Enjoy a peaceful vacation at our Tree House in Highlands which is located on a plateau in the southern Appalachian Mountains, within the Nantahala National Forest. Our home has 3-4 bedrooms with 3 & 1/2 baths that is less than 0.3 mile from Main Street in Highlands. Walk to and fish at Harris Lake or simply relax and feed the ducks and geese. A stroll brings you to the downtown shops in minutes. Enjoy a glass of wine in front of a roaring fire during those cool Highlands evenings.

The space

Have you ever spent a vacation in a Log Home? Now is your chance. Our three level log home has both an indoor wood fireplace in the living room as well as another fireplace on the balcony. There is a hot tub on another balcony to soak in after spending a day golfing, hiking, shopping or just relaxing in front of an open fire. We have a den upstairs that is perfect for curling up with a favorite book as well as one on the ground floor if you just want to be by yourself. We provide both a gas grill as well as a charcoal grill if you want to cook out. Want to make 'Smores? We provide metal marshmallow forks to roast them with. We try to have plenty of firewood but you will need to bring Duraflame logs, starters or kindling to help you start a fire.

Advice: There are bears in these mountains. These are not tame pets; they are wild animals. In most cases they are more afraid of you than you are of them. But if cornered or you get between a momma bear and her cubs they can be very dangerous. If you encounter an aggressive one, call the Highlands Police at 911.
• If you put garbage in the cans in the garage before taking the bags to the “Bear trash box” on the street, make sure you shut the garage door. Big furry animals might get into the cans at night if the garage door is left open.

Don’t build too large of a fire. Leaving a fire burning at bedtime or when you leave the house can be dangerous.

We really don’t advise allowing small children in the spa unless you use a much lower temp.

We had a great time in the Highlands and the Treehouse was a big reason why. We booked four couples over the eclipse weekend. We knew we the Highlands would be crowded and resolved to cook all our meals at the house. The Treehouse has a great kitchen which was well stocked for our needs. Between that and the grill we had no problems feeding our family and enjoying the beautiful porch with fireplace. The property is just a short few minutes walk to main street, but affords great privacy. We really enjoyed it and would stay here again!

This house is incredible! We were in town for a girl's weekend and this house accommodated us perfectly! We had 13 girls and slept comfortably with plenty of space. The location of the Tree House was great! We walked quite a few times downtown. It was about a 10-15 minute walk but it was an easy trip to make. The pictures do not do this house justice! It is very spacious and has a great outdoor area with an open kitchen and living room area. Carol and Steve are very easy to communicate with and made it stress free for check in and check out! If you want a relaxing trip to the Highlands, I highly recommend the Tree House!

I retired 5 years ago from the pharmacies that I started almost 40 years ago. This has enabled my wife and I to travel more and devote more time to volunteering. Besides our involvement with our church, we tutor at a nearby school, work at a local food and clothing bank as well a…
