About this listing
Overlooking the sea Of Santa Maria di Leuca, Villa La Meridiana is a refined charming abode that was built in 1874. It is characterized by an unique facade decorated with yellow ochre stripes and Pompeian red, which during summer is enriched by bushes of red Bougainvillea.
It has an apartment on the ground floor (dedicated to the tenor Tito Schipa, a native of Lecce) overlooking the private garden (with four-poster bed, star-vaulted ceilings, a living room with wrought iron sofas and a lounge area dedicated to the guests who want to relax reading the books of the Villa’s library)
Villa La Meridiana has no restaurant but guests can reserve a table at Hotel Terminal (situated besides the villa). Every day there is a great selection of refined Salento dishes. Available on reservation, lunch and dinner are served directly in the villa dining room, picking from the daily menu full with local fresh products.
The structure is surrounded by a nineteenth-century garden with bougainvillea, roses, honeysuckles, jasmines and a trough for birds, which fly over Santa Maria di Leuca during migration as they did in the past. A panoramic lantern surmounts the entire structure with a full view over the town.
Our guests can freely use the private beach and the swimming pool of the Hotel Terminal. The beach (equipped with beach chairs, sun beds and sunshades) is just in front of the Villa and beyond the promenade: guarded by the “Bagnarola”, a sort of dressing room in the same colours of the villa that directly communicates with the sea. In the past, it was used by ladies to wear the swimsuit and get into the water away from indiscreet gazes. A little dovecote in yellow ochre and Pompeian red is part of the pool background, surrounded by eclectic villas built during the end of the last century.

Other things to note
In the stable of the villa, “La Dispensa di Caroli” is a well-stocked point of sale with high quality food and wine produced in Salento: prickly pear liqueur, rose liqueur, olive pâté, "pampasciuni" (wild onions in olive oil) and pear and fig jams, sun-dried tomatoes, red, rosé and white wine and extra virgin oil made from cold pressed olives.
Boat trips are daily organized to explore the coast grottos and have a bath in the crystal clear water of the Ionic and Adriatic seas, always accompanied by trained PADI instructors. We offer a great variety of excursions, from the classic tours (Lecce, Gallipoli, Otranto) to the less popular but suggestive at the same time (the baroque monuments of Galatone and Nardò, Galatina and the cathedral of Santa Caterina of Alessandria enriched by recently renovated frescos of the Giotto school and the artisan workshops organized in the towns near Leuca. Guided tours are available in foreign languages too.
The above mentioned details make Villa La Meridiana a unique experience of stay, ideal for a alternative holiday due to its lack of a television in each room (completely detaching from everything and everyone), a spa, minimal-chic furnishings and antiques dated before the last century. In the bedrooms and the living rooms, guests relive the experiences and situations of the people who used to live the abode before, and feel its magic too.
