Located just 15-20 mins walk to Holyrood Palace and the foot of the Royal Mile and Edinburgh's Old Town and right next to Queens Park, and the volcanic peak of Arthur's seat. This artists flat is a little rough around the edges and rustic in nature but it's a special place that's spacious, bright and peaceful, despite being close to town. You’ll love our large shared garden , the cozy living room and the close proximity to the royal park and volcano in the front garden! great for dogs!

The space
as you can see from the pictures probably - the flat is a little scruffy around the edges - a bit like me! the unfinished wooden floors, old oak and exposed brick is not for everyone but it's also full of original environmental artwork and a nice old piano (which your welcome to use with consideration) so if you like kayaking and camping and thinking deeply in nature then I think you'll like my place.

Both bedrooms are clean and tidy with very comfy king sized beds. There is a big dining-kitchen which you are welcome to use (but its a vegetarian house so we'd prefer to keep the kitchen meat-free). we also have a large south facing living room with a beautiful uninterrupted park view and a living flame gas fire if you feel like a cozy night in. there is no TV but we have fast fibre wifi for movie streaming.

it's a spacious two bedroom flat on the second floor of an old Victorian Edinburgh terrace and is comfortable for four people. There is a fold out bed that fits along side the king-size bed in the front room - good for youngsters or siblings who prefer not to share but not ideal for adults. the flat is really suited for two couples and a child at a stretch but any more and the place begins to feel a bit cramped.

I had a baby a few years ago with my partner up in the Highlands where we spend most of the time so I have emptied drawers and cupboards out and Airbnb provides our wee family a really helpful additional income. anyway - you will have the apartment to yourselves and we have really nice neighbors so it's important that my guests respect them and don't have parties or cause any inconvenience to them... we just ask that you please show them the same courtesy and kindness that you would expect from your neighbors and just let me know if you have any special needs and I’ll try my best to arrange things so as to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible :)

thanks 🙏🏼✨

p.s (there is a big back garden and a BBQ which your welcome to use if you crave the occasional steak but maybe not if someone has their laundry hanging up! 😋

Other things to note
just come and make yourself at home ..not much to note except that we just had super fast broadband installed.. and a new shower and bathroom .. the paint is way more pink than it looked in the catalogue 😄🤭but the shower pressure is great and new boiler means you have hot water whenever you need it.. just a reminder to please don't smoke and avoid cooking animals in the house - but we have a nice big garden space /bbq outside which you can use :) it's the big key next to the ceramic elephant in the hallway 🙂

Neighbourhood highlights

How many other capital cities in the world have a volcano slap bang in the centre? Well Edinburgh does! - It’s an exhilarating and totally manageable hike around and there are incredible panoramic views from the top - (Trip advisor reckons out of 334 listed things to do in Edinburgh it’s #1 – and its 35 seconds from our front door! ☺)

If you are up for it I can help you with directions and best routs for a really nice five mile round trip round the dirt tracks which takes in the summit or you’ll be able to get round on the tarmac roads in less than an hour by bike) also Portobello beach is just a mile or so away (great music, café’s and beach front bars) or if you’d like to swim in our Olympic-sized Commonwealth pool - its beautifully scenic 20 min jog through the Queens Park past the Scottish parliament. We are just 10-15 mins walk from the Hollyrood Palace at the foot of the so called “Royal Mile” that runs perpendicular to the Pleasance - (a favourite festival hub for all kinds of shows) all the way up to Edinburgh castle – the historic heart of scotland (you can walk up through the Grassmarket (more pubs per square foot than any other city on the planet) via some wonderful monuments, cathedrals and tons of festival venues.

My work: Artist + TV presenter
Lives in Edinburgh, United Kingdom
i'm an Artist and Freelance producer / presenter of an upbeat environmental TV show for al jazeera english called "earthrise" so do a lot of traveling. I love my job - the best part is meeting the wonderful, inspiring people that are doing all kinds of awesome environmental projects and having the chance to experience different cultures in a connected way that would be really difficult as a tourist. Thats also why i love Airbnb - i often stay in hotels for shoots but much prefer the airbnb experience - i like meeting hosts, getting off the tourist trail and benefiting from a little local knowledge in order to get a better sense of a place. Some of my most memorable experiences so far have been cattle ranching in Mato Grosso, Brazil - Fungi Hunting in the Arctic, scuba diving in a futuristic fish farm in Baja California and flying a cesna through a lightning storm over the Congo. After living in London for years I moved back to Edinburgh to do a MFA in Art , Space and Nature at the Edinburgh College of Art - so now spend most of my time making ecologically engaged artwork . You can find me on all the regular social media platforms and view all of my earthrise films online if you are into that kind of stuff.. Cheers! Russ :)
