The space

Easy access to Ceredigion coastal path. 10 miles to bustling harbour towns of Aberaeron and Aberystwyth.

The hut is a handmade eco-friendly fusion of country charm and contemporary luxury, and contains everything you need for a relaxing break away: a full size double bed, wood burner, hot and cold running water, shower, flushing WC, tea making facilities. Set in an idyllic rural setting, we have frequent visits from a variety of birds including red kites, buzzards and jays. A superb spot for nature lovers and artists.
Lighting is solar powered and the walls are insulated with sheep’s wool, helping to preserve the warmth from the wood-burning stove. The floor is re-claimed oak and all the ash is from local fallen trees.
On arrival you will find; tea, coffee, milk, a fridge for your food, all necessary crockery and cutlery, hot water bottle, complimentary continental breakfast for your first morning and a complimentary basket of logs. There are also towels in the bathroom. The hut is located in a peaceful setting. Situated just a mile from the beach at Llanrhystud, you are surrounded by fields – sometimes with sheep - and the sound of our cockerel in the morning! Also on our smallholding there are dogs, cats and ducks. Peace and tranquillity surround you. There is minimal light pollution and the stars are easily visible on cloudless nights.

Things for you to bring:

Wellington boots – the grass around the hut is likely to be wet.
Car - there are plenty of beaches and woodlands to explore in the area, many of which are not accessible by public transport.

The tranquil, rural setting of the Shepherdess' Hut at Llanrhystud is the perfect place for a retreat, to escape from the pressures of daily life, regroup and recharge your batteries.

Guest access

You'll have the entire Sheperdess' Hut to yourself and you are free to explore the surrounding fields. My longarm quilting studio is on site and you are welcome to come and chat.

Interaction with guests

We are usually on site in the farmhouse or the quilting studio in case of any problems.

Other things to note

Although we provide a complimentary basket of firewood, we can refill the basket for £5 if necessary.

We also provide a complimentary continental breakfast for your first morning

If you order the day before, the following are available-

A continental breakfast with homemade jams and honey from our fields is available for £5 for two people.

In the evening you can order homemade soup with a roll and Welsh butter for £10. Most of the vegetables in the soup come from our garden.

There is no wifi and limited phone signal.

The place was very cosy and we had a very romantic stay, the fireplace created great atmosphere. A fantastic place for couples to get away from all the noisy. Karen is a great host and made homemade soup for dinner which was delicious.

Karen's shepherdess hut provides, fun, quirky accommodation. The bed was very comfortable and the wood-burning stove soon warmed us up and was perfect for drying our wet socks. Karen was on-hand and very helpful. She also makes delicious soup.

We had such a nice stay at Karen's Hut. We could use the little wooden-fired oven since it was a bit cold at night and it was just lovely waking up in the sunshine in the middle of a field. Also the little breakfast prepared in the fridge was a nice treat. Thank you so much :)

The location is excellent for anyone walking the coast path as we were. Karen was a friendly and helpful host and the hut was cosy. VERY cosy for two, particularly with all our hiking gear!

Gorgeous little hut in a very quiet field! We loved the rustic feel with the stove and the quilts. The bed was very comfortable. We'd recommend going down the coast or up to Aberystwyth for food! Karen was very accommodating and discreet, making herself available when and if needed. Thank you!

Karen User ProfileKaren is a superhost.

I've lived in this area for over 20 years and have grown to love the beach and rolling Welsh hills. I run my own quilting business, making custom quilts when required and specialising in longarm quilting. When I am not in the studio I enjoy growing my own vegetables and walking with my dogs in my surrounding fields, beaches and woodlands.
