My family's place is walking distance to the all main city shops, cafes, restaurants, fresh food stores, and big supermarkets. It is few minutes away from main promenade, long city beach, Susanj beach, Crvena plaza (beach), Port of Bar and Bar Marina. You’ll love my place because of the views, the ambiance, fresh air, spacious terraces, tons of natural sun light and the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and pets.

The space

What makes this apartment unique is the spacious terrace looking towards the Mountain Lisinj, downtown, ruins of an ancient church and to the open green spaces. You also have the partial view of the main Port of Bar and beautiful Adriatic Sea. The living area has an open layout with huge windows that face the east side where the Sun comes out providing the apartment with tons of sunlight throughout the whole morning.

One and a half bathroom gives it greater sense of privacy for this one bedroom apartment.

Interaction with guests

I live in NYC and I will be joining my family in Bar in the Spring of next year. My Aunt Sanela works in the office on the same floor and she will be your contact person in Montenegro during your stay. Her English is pretty good and her 18th year old daughter Alabina has done multiple exchange years in US and her English is phenomenal. She could be your driver and a tour guide during your stay if you wish. If you do not have service in Montenegro my family uses messaging apps like whatsup and viber.

Other things to note

There is a cafe on the ground floor of the building that has music on weekend night that can get a little loud.

There is a tourist fee in Montenegro which is one euro per person per night which pays for all summer concerts and other maintenance fees. It can be payed at the Registrar's office next to out Tourist office which is located at the beginning of the promenade behind the Cafe Turist.

If you're in Bar; Alem's is the place to stay at! It's close to the marina, the center, the water and also super quiet and chilled out :) We found it really easy and convenient to head out for a taxi or the bus station; super markets just around the corner. Alem's aunt and her daughter were there to check me in and that was real smooth. If you're into diving; then Alem's place is really close to the Dive Shop so that's a bonus as well. The communication with Alem was efficient and clear - thanks much Alem for your place and I had a great time :) Take care and enjoy NYC!

Alem was very responsive in our communication with him from the time of the booking until we left the apartment. He answered all of our questions about the city & transportation and suggested different things we could do because we booked it on a whim with little to no research. We absolutely LOVED watching the sunset at Livada Bar that was listed in Alem’s guidebook. His aunt that let us in was also lovely and very flexible when we arrived later than planned. The apartment was a nice place to stay being so close to the harbor and waterfront with a fabulous balcony. It was as described in the listing, comfortable for a couple or 2 friends with nice views and very clean. The market across the street is super convenient too. I highly recommend this apartment if you are staying in Bar.

Alem's apartment was a great place to stay, very close to the harbour - literally around a 3 minute walk. Around a 20 minute walk from the train station but very quick and cheap in a taxi. The apartment was very clean and had everything you needed, double room, sofa bed, spare pull out bed, washing machine etc. Thank you very much for letting us stay!! From chloe, tom and Steve (from England)! We would love to stay again!

The apartment is just as described and pictured, very clean and bright. The morning sun hits the terrace, which made it a little warm, but it was nice in the evenings since it sets on the other side of the building. The air conditioner worked very well. There are lots of grocery stores nearby, as well as a lot of restaurants within an easy walk. We loved being so close to the pedestrian area. Alem and Sanela went above and beyond to help us with some issues we had, they are perfect hosts! I highly recommend this apartment.

Alem had great communication skills from booking and was extremely helpful in providing train time tables and bus timetables etc. He also regularly checked in on us throughout our stay via text. His lovely aunt met us to check in, and even provided some fresh figs from her garden. Due to an electrical outage across the whole city one day, both were responsive to messages as my friend and I were lost with the language when trying to find out what was going on. As a whole the apartment is good, although I think any more than 2 people or 2 adults and one small child would be too much. The bed and sofa was comfortable albeit the sofa can only comfortably sit two. We believe that with a few small tweaks this apartment can be even better. In terms of location to the city centre of Bar, it is fantastic at just a few minutes walk. However be aware that the riviera of Bar is very large yet many things are clumped together under the heading of Bar. This however does not mean the city of Bar. If you're not in a car just expect to be making frequent bus and train journeys to various locations up the bay as the actual city itself (atleast when not truly in peak season) is very quiet and excursions etc are likely to be cancelled if minimum numbers aren't met. We actually booked our stay in Bar for a trip to Ostrog and a quieter few days but as we seemed to be the only two wanting this trip, it was cancelled and this meant getting a taxi up to Petrovac to be able to join an Ostrog excursion. Also be bold with the taxi drivers in bar, it was the only place we found in Montenegro where they refused to put the metres on for tourists and charge astronomical prices. If you arrive from the station a taxi should cost you around 2e (not 5e!). Overall we had a nice stay in Bar, thank you Alem.

Response from Alem:
Thank you again Suzanne for staying at the apartment, we loved you as a quest ! I love your detailed feedback and definitely agree with everything you said. Bar is a third biggest city in Montenegro by it's territory. The city or downtown itself is waking distance big, but it's municipality is very spread out. As it spreads from Adriatic to the Skadar Lake, and from cities of Budva til Ulcinj. It probably takes an hour to get from the north or Budva to south border or Ulcinj. That being said when coming in other months except July or August I would definitely recommend renting a car or a scooter so you can avoid similar cancellations that Suzanne had. When it comes to grabbing a taxi Suzanne is right that the some of the independent taxi drivers do like charge higher prices to tourists. In order to avoid this you should make a call or grab a professional taxi companies such as Star or Euro taxi. They both have been in the industry for a very long time and are very transparent and professional. I haven't taken a taxi there in a long time but I think that a minute of drive should cost you under 1 euro. Thanks again Suzanne for such a helpful feedback and stop by again. We would love to have you !

I am a young international student finishing his studies in NYC, originally from Montenegro. I have done an international exchange year with American family in Michigan, USA during my senior year of high school which I found as one of the most profound and lovable experiences of my life.

I do study architecture here in NYC and very much like to go out, visit museums, hangout with friends, learn and discover new things. Growing up in a coastal city of Bar in Montenegro I do love nature, water, old architecture and traveling. I am all about friends and family, close and honest relationships, Eastern European cafes and beautiful beach life. Cliff diving and underwater diving are some of my obsessions and I would love to show you some of my favorite Adriatic spots.

I have a very large close family starting with my Albanian Grandpa and Bosnian Grandma that made it all possible. A marriage between these two nationalities does not happen very often but those two just celebrated their 50th anniversary! We have a long history in our city with my Grandma Behija well known for opening the first women's hair salon in the city center. We are a well diverse crew of personalities and would love to show you our way of living, customs, traditions and food.

We live a in three house big beautiful yard just few minutes from center of Bar. My Grandpa takes care of bees, my Grandma bakes all day our favorite pitas and the rest of my family takes care of our family business that has been there for years. Our company has bathroom furnishing warehouse and store called FADIS.

Our yard is huge and includes 5 car parking, stone made water well, 40th year old gorgeous palm tree, many greens spaces with fruits and vegetables like lemons, oranges, clementines, pomegranates, kiwis, figs, grapes, olives, Japanese apple, jujube and few others.

You are always welcome to have some of our seasonal fruits, Grandpa's organic honey and fresh fish that my Dad catches with his fishing boat. As we stole a slogan form Spaniards, Mi Casa es Su Casa!
