Even though the rooms were part of a much larger house, we had all the privacy we wanted. The two rooms were connected with an upper hallway/landing and each had their own bathroom. Our daughter was able to be with us, but have all of the privacy she needed at the other end of the landing. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated and large. Coffee/tea fixings are provided. No refrigerator in the room although arrangements can be made with the host if needed to use the main house refrigerator. This location is really away from it all. This is an area where the cows sometimes wander the roads, but that adds to the charm. Baker City, about 12 miles away, has all of the restaurants, museums, etc for visiting.

This place is amazing. Such a beautiful and quiet location, with an excellent host and some lovely four footies (outdoor) to boot. We hope to return again when we can spend more time exploring the area and hear some of Greg's fantastic tales as a deep sea fisherman off the coast of Alaska.

Great accommadations. Greg was a great host, up to date on road closures due to fires, helpful with restaurants, and fun to talk to! He gave us some excellent websites to search when we get home. We would love to stay here again.

The place was perfect, we stayed in the main house. It was quiet, there were a few cats that even hung around while we unpacked and followed us to the door. (They appeared to be tame outdoor cats, but they are not associated with the property so we did not let them in doors at all.) We also met some very friendly horses the next morning. It was a perfect stay.

Lovely rebuilt "schoolhouse" into a small inn. Our upstairs blue room, with private bathroom, was spacious & well-stocked, except no hair dryer. A/C keep us cool when it was very hot outside. Location was very rural. Our room looked out over a hay field toward the Blue Mountains. Very calming! We had to travel into Haines to eat dinner & breakfast, a few minutes away. If you want peace & quiet & natural scenery, I recommend the "The Old Schoolhouse".

Robin User ProfileRobin is a superhost.

This home once was the Rock Creek School House, built in early 1900's.
Then it burnt down. They rebuilt it out of brick in 1925 and, was purchased in 1982 buy Greg Moutsanides. Greg lived here with his family for 14 years until a nightmare of a fire from the cinders of the wood burning furnece, burnt the house down to the ground. Back then the rural route was not registered with any 911 emergency systems. The phone call went to Bend Oregon. By the time the fire department got to the house the house was destroyed. Greg was insistent about rebuilding and so he did.
Although there's plenty more work to do this house has become an inspiration to Gregs perseverance and will to "never to give up". So I welcome you as a guest of this beautiful home that sits on the edge of the Elkhorn mountains 30 minutes from the Anthony Lakes Resort ski lodge the best powder in the state.
10 miles from Baker City. 30 miles from the city of La Grande.
There is a Female German Shepherd named Remi.
There are three outdoor cats Slash, Mama Kitty, and Buster.
There are 2 bedrooms with private bathrooms to be rented out. As well as a cowboy private cabin out in the back for those who like to rough it!
Beautiful views.
A big huge yard and the original Barn when it was a schoolhouse.
